Director Advancement Relations

The Director of Advancement Relations will serve as a primary philanthropy partner to multiple institutional priorities and initiatives at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Froedtert Hospital. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Advancement Relations and collaborates closely with the philanthropy team, campaign team and engagement team to bridge the philanthropy vision and campaign priorities of MCW and Froedtert Hospital with donor relationships. The position also helps to design, coordinate and implement continuous improvements to the grateful patient referral program.

• Serves as the primary contact between key institutional priorities and the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA), acting as conduits for communication, coordination and strategy development.

• Acquires and maintains a knowledge and fluency in the priorities focused on research, education, clinical care, and community for each assigned institutional priority area and provides effective communication to necessary OIA and Communications partners for visibility and strategy development

• Builds and maintains successful partnership with institutional priority leaders, inclusive of a team approach to benefactor opportunities (institutional priority leaders, OIA leaders, relationship manager, key volunteers, etc).

• Builds and maintains partnership with healthcare champions to elicit grateful patient referrals, bring referrals for OIA review/assignment, and report back on outcomes and next steps.

• Fosters trust and transparency with healthcare champions

• Educates healthcare champions on how to identify potential philanthropic prospects while adhering to patient privacy laws.

• Tracks clinician interactions, philanthropic referrals and donor activities utilizing fundraising CRM databases.

• Develops and implements successful fundraising strategic plans for each assigned institutional priority, aligned with an integrated campaign strategy.

• Consults with development officers, OIA leaders, institutional priority leaders, and executive leadership to strategize and align benefactor interest with funding opportunities within institutional priorities.

• Works closely with development officers and creative services team to identify content for donor-facing materials such as proposals and stewardship reports

• Guides proposal process to align benefactor interest with institutional priorities and funding opportunities, including the proposal review process in partnership with key departmental leaders

• Works with philanthropy finance teams to prepare and report philanthropy productivity for assigned institutional priorities.

• Ensures tracking of all philanthropy productivity and donor opportunities for assigned institutional priorities

• Ensures gifts are designated appropriately and spent according to donor intentions to inform effective donor stewardship.

• Works with Prospect Management & Research to evaluate healthcare champion referrals and identify potential donor pipelines for institutional priorities

• Ensures OIA leaders, institutional priority leaders and executive leaders are consulted as the final decision makers on benefactor strategies.

• Demonstrated success in managing relationships with institutional leadership

• Demonstrated success developing strategic and work plans, with an emphasis on effective project management.

• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communications skills.

• Demonstrated ability to manage in a complex organization and plan strategically with high-level faculty, administrators and volunteers.

• Expert knowledge of fundraising concepts, techniques and procedures.

• Preferred experience with campaigns.

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 7 years in the Advancement field, with a preference for experience in the higher education or healthcare sectors

Preferred Education:  Master's Degree              

Preferred Experience: 8 or more years in the Advancement field, with a preference for experience in the higher education or healthcare sectors               

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects. #LI-NK1
