Job Description:
The Chapter Domain Lead will play a pivotal role in nurturing and enhancing the capabilities of the Digital Product Management team at Sun Life. As a leader within a scaled agile environment, the Chapter Domain Lead will report to the Chapter Lead and will be responsible for managing a subset of the product management team serving in Product Owner and Product Analyst roles working in common domains. In addition to resource management, you will be responsible for fostering role clarity, career growth, skill development, and continuous improvement to help elevate your team’s performance with consistent practice and ways of working. The ideal candidate is a group product manager, experienced in product ownership, who manages practicing POs, who is experienced in, motivated by, and passionate about developing people to be their best.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly manage, mentor, and develop individual contributor Product Owners and Product Analysts to improve in their roles and advance in their craft and careers
- Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding team members to your domain
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching to direct reports to ensure goals are understood and are being met
- Help team members to create career development plans, identify training and development needs, and seek to provide them with experience and exposure to learning and growth opportunities
- Address any performance issues promptly and ensure team members needing help are provided guidance and support to improve or transition if needed
- Create a culture of continuous feedback and accountability to foster employee engagement, retention, and overall team success
- Advise chapter leadership and stakeholders on resourcing decisions for deployment of chapter members to agile squads as organizational and investment priorities evolve
- Assist the Chapter Lead with developing and implementing a comprehensive career development and progression framework for product management professionals, encompassing skills assessment, role definitions, training programs, mentorship opportunities, and career pathing
- Collaborate with chapter leadership to identify talent gaps and succession planning strategies
- Develop, lead, and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and coaching sessions to enhance technical, leadership, and soft skills of chapter members
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including Agile Coaches, Agile Delivery, Experience Design and Engineering, to promote a culture of collaboration, open communication, innovation, and continuous learning
- Lead initiatives to improve and create consistency of practice with product management processes and key ceremonies, systems analysis, tools, and methodologies in the context of a scaled agile environment
Qualifications
- 6+ years in product management/ownership, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role
- BS degree in business administration, computer science, engineering, a related field or equivalent experience
- Experienced in ongoing performance management, coaching, and employee development
- Strong understanding of agile principles, frameworks, and methodologies, such as SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate individuals at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive organization change initiatives in a fast-paced environment
- Certifications such as SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CPSO), or Certified Product Manager (CPM) are a plus
- Group insurance or benefits technology experience is a plus

If you are a Minnesota, Colorado or Nevada resident, the salary range for this position is $125,200 - $187,800 annually
If you are an Illinois, Connecticut or Maryland resident, the salary range for this position is $131,100 - $196,700 annually
If you are Washington, Washington D.C., and Rhode Island resident, the salary range for this position is $131,100 - $196,700 annually
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $147,800 - $221,700 annually
