About the role:

The Digital Data Engineering Manager will lead a team responsible for building and maintaining marketing data infrastructure and tag management platforms. This role defines and executes the multi-year strategy for data capture, storage, and access. The manager oversees the design and management of data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and activation across marketing systems, including real-time customer data processing. They implement and enforce data governance standards to ensure data quality, compliance, and security. The manager establishes and promotes best practices for data structure, modeling, and platform utilization to enable scalability, performance, and effective data activation. This position requires strong technical expertise and experience managing modern data engineering teams. The manager will optimize team structure and resource allocation to maximize productivity and technology utilization, serving as the organization’s primary authority on data engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead a best-in-class data engineering team and practice within the marketing team at GMF, focusing on on-time, on-quality and on-cost of Marketing data and operations
  • Increase the quality, volume, usability, and access to enterprise data that can be used for marketing decisions
  • Define and execute a multi-year data engineering vision and plan
  • Develop/define data standards, executing data layer for marketing data, ingestion and quality (QA/QC) of marketing data for activation and analytics, operationalizing adTech capabilities, and driving operational excellence for campaign production and execution
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with other team leads across the broader enterprise; including information and activity sharing, and collaborating towards common data goals
  • Responsible for individual team member’s career planning, training, and growth
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, and provide company thought leadership around tools and marketing technology as well as industry topics and trends
  • Be solutions-minded by working with business stakeholders to truly understand their needs and challenges, and then delivering on the right solutions
  • Develop and operate an effective data governance model
  • Work closely with leadership, partner organizations, and implementation teams to drive design & oversight of APIs, data sharing capabilities, and support models to underpin modern marketing transformation strategy
  • Educate marketing, agencies, and other cross-functional teams on data stewardship importance, quality, and consistency by providing needed exception reports, analytics, and continuous process improvements
  • Ensure that recurring data process and activities are highly automated to improve outcomes (time, quality, robustness, etc.) while increasing efficiencies (costs, streamline processes, etc.)

What makes you an ideal candidate?

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, with multiple years of managing individual team members in some combination of data engineering, marketing analytics, data science, big data, business intelligence, and/or process engineering
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Adobe Experience Platform including RTCDP, CJA, Adobe Analytics, and Adobe Audience Manager
  • Experience with website tagging and analytics, including advanced-level experience with either Google and/or Adobe web analytics and tagging software
  • Demonstrable experience with Adobe Experience Platform data ingestion
  • Other Adobe Marketing Cloud product knowledge a plus (i.e. Test & Target and Audience Manager)
  • Solid understanding and experience working with data, databases, and popular data tools (e.g. SQL)
  • Experience with data ingestion, taxonomy, ETL development
  • Expert in data management strategies and industry tools/technologies (Martech, Adtech)
  • Experience in architecting marketing data
  • Knowledge of data privacy compliance and best practices
  • Strong project and operational leadership skills and experience
  • Knowledge and familiarity with contemporary thinking in areas such as database marketing, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, and UX
  • Exposure to web diagnostic tools like Adobe Digital Pulse Debugger, Developer tool, Omnibug, and/or CharlesProxy
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented, with a passion for data mining and the ability to assemble and interpret data and communicate findings across all levels of the organization
  • Action-oriented with the ability to multi-task and discern priorities
Qualifications

Experience

  • Greater than 10 years of combined experience in some form of data management or data engineering required
  • 3-5 years of experience with Adobe Experience Platform
  • 3-5 years of experience managing/mentoring individual team members required
  • 5-7 years of experience specifically working with marketing data preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
