Platform DevOps EngineerThe Mission: Tech with Real-World Impact
In an era of global uncertainty, software is the ultimate shield. Based in our high-tech hub in Hengelo (OV), we build the Combat Management Systems (CMS) that protect naval vessels and their crews worldwide.
This isn't just another SaaS application, this is high-stakes, mission-critical infrastructure where "zero downtime" is a literal lifesaver. As a Platform DevOps Engineer, you’ll be the architect of the environments where these systems live, breathe, and evolve.
The Role: Build, Break, Automate, Repeat
You’ll join a multidisciplinary Agile squad focused on the backbone of our CMS. You won't just be "maintaining" you'll be modernizing.
- Bridge the Gap: Manage the delicate balance between cutting-edge microservices and the robust legacy systems that keep ships running.
- Automate Everything: Use Ansible and modern CI/CD patterns to ensure our deployments are seamless and secure.
- Security by Design: Implement high-level security protocols (Mandatory Access Control, Host Based firewalls, Strong Authentication, etcetera) to harden our systems against any threat.
Challenge the Status Quo: We don't want "yes-people." We want engineers who question "why" and find better ways to do things.
Your Tech ToolkitWe’re looking for a sharp, curious engineer who brings:
The Foundation:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- Linux Mastery: RHCE or LFCE certification (or the skills to prove you’re at that level).
- The Automation Mindset: Expertise in Ansible and system deployment.
- Cloud-Native Knowledge: A deep understanding of Containers, Microservices, and Networking.
The Security Lens:
Familiarity with high level Linux Security protocols like:
- Mandatory Access control (SELinux / AppArmor)
- Robust firewalling (IPTables/Firewalld)
- Hardening of protocols (SSH and TLS)
Communication:
- The ability to explain a complex "kernel panic" to a dev and a strategic roadmap to a manager
What's in it for you?
- A challenging job in a great team within our high-tech, innovative work environment. Includes freedom for initiative and good ideas.
- Room for personal and professional growth within our organization, for example in regard to technical, commercial skills.
- Valuable international collaboration with coworkers from 68 different countries around the globe.
- A comfortable workspace in a modern environment, with a focus on flexibility and the right work life balance.
- You can usually work where and whenever you want. Within Thales, we aim for a 60/40 balance, where you work from home at least two days a week, when your role allows this.
- A good salary, fitting travel allowance, and the ability to personalize your employment conditions: for instance, you can trade PTO for internet costs, our bicycle plan, company fitness and relocation costs.
- 40 days off per year (PTO).
