This assignment will be to work with the DevOps and Automation Manager to create and deliver the DevOps and Automation roadmap with a heavy focus on “Everything Ephemeral” including Agentic AI and ephemeral environments.

Key responsibilities and deliverables:

  • Liaise closely with IT Delivery Managers, including participation in regular Sprint planning meetings to understand upcoming project activity and identify where DevOps support is required by the team(s).

  • Agree and prioritise project tasks alongside the IT Delivery Manager and DevOps and Automation Manager.

  • Provide timely updates on the progress of project tasks, for example via regular Scrum meetings, or via periodic written reports as requested by project IT Delivery Management.

  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures/documentation for deployments and troubleshooting.

  • Create knowledge articles and other support artefacts pertaining to the project for use by the wider DevOps team.

  • Responsible for configuration, release and environment management for multi-tier technology estates.

  • Support technical deployments of database (MSSQL), Websites, Services, App services and application deployments predominantly on Windows and RedHat.

  • Champion agentic automation: Drive the adoption of agentic-first automation, aiming for high levels of end-to-end automation using reusable, auditable components. Enable real-time business/end-user steering, with humans in the loop for oversight and exception handling.

  • Expand Automation-as-a-Service (AaaS): Build automation solutions with self-service enablement, allowing business teams to own and operate their processes with minimal DevOps intervention. Use low-code platforms and reusable automation components to accelerate delivery.

  • Modernise CI/CD and environment management: Enhance CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, security scanning, and deployment orchestration. Integrate tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, and OctopusDeploy for seamless delivery. Move towards self-service environment provisioning using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and pipeline-driven automation.

  • Implement advanced observability and monitoring: Use platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry to provide real-time insights into system health, deployments, and business metrics.

  • Embed security and compliance by design: Integrate security into every stage of the SDLC, using automated security testing, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement. Ensure all automation and deployments are traceable and auditable, supporting regulatory compliance and digital trust.

  • Promote continuous learning and innovation: Encourage upskilling in emerging technologies such as AI/ML Ops, agentic automation, and cloud-native development. Participate in innovation sprints to generate new automation ideas and create user stories for rapid prototyping.

  • Use technologies like Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps, Github, OctopusDeploy, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, low-code automation platforms (e.g., Power Automate, UiPath) to help evolve the team's capabilities.

  • Coordinate planned outage and environment refreshes in collaboration with project managers and Test Lead.

Skills Required

  • Experience with Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code deployments
  • Experience with configuration management using Ansible
  • Experience building and modernizing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, OctopusDeploy)
  • Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
  • Implementing observability and monitoring using Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with low-code / RPA platforms (Power Automate, UiPath) and delivering Automation-as-a-Service
  • Experience supporting deployments of MSSQL databases, Azure App Services, Windows and RedHat environments
  • Embedding security and automated compliance testing into the SDLC
  • Experience creating deployment, configuration and runbook documentation and knowledge articles
  • Experience enabling self-service environment provisioning and pipeline-driven automation
