Description

About Evidence Action

Evidence Action is a non-profit dedicated to identifying neglected global health issues and scaling proven solutions - adding years of healthy life for entire generations. Deworm the World, our foundational program, has delivered over 2B deworming treatments, driving dramatic reductions in worm prevalence and generating over $23 billion in lifetime productivity gains.

Our model operationalizes top academic research (including from Nobel-winning economists) and uses experts across global health, supply chain, and infrastructure to develop and implement health interventions at national scale. Our team of 700+ has reached over 500M people, working hand-in-hand with national governments to scale our approach across nine countries. Measurement and evaluation are embedded in every stage of our work - from idea validation in our Accelerator; to coverage validation upon rollout (quantifying uptake of interventions).

The Evidence Action Accelerator, founded in 2019, researches and identifies the next unicorns of development - to date we have found five programs with potential to transform the health outcomes of millions, including:

  • Preventing stillbirths and neonatal deaths through testing and treating maternal syphilis - which today causes more deaths than pediatric HIV, and is treatable for just $0.50 a dose
  • Reducing under-five child mortality by ~25% through scaling safe water access to hundreds of millions, which can add a year of healthy life for just $40
  • Fighting leading causes of childhood disability through delivering iron and folic acid supplements to prevent anemia, applying our innovative school-based delivery model

With these untapped opportunities now identified, we are at an inflection point in our capacity to create sector-wide impact - and improve health outcomes for hundreds of millions of people globally.

About the role

As a Development Manager you will play a critical role in Evidence Action’s next phase of impact, securing funding to transform health outcomes for generations.

You will drive critical outcomes across donor acquisition, conversion, and retention: identifying potential partnerships, leading end-to-end preparation of compelling funding proposals, partnering with program teams to hone program design, and generating uniquely compelling content to deepen relationships with existing funders and partners. You are an exceptional project manager with strong communication skills, creativity, and an ability to thrive in white space.

You will report to the Associate Director, External Relations, and work closely with our program teams to elicit and express their value propositions, goals, successes, and challenges. You will also develop engaging reports for our existing donors, and support new thematic pitches that respond to priorities and trends in the development sector..

Responsibilities

  • Funding proposals – Prepare compelling proposals for new funding, with formats ranging from pitch decks and short concept notes to formal technical proposals.
  • Grant reports – Provide our generous supporters with clear and accurate reports on how their funds have been used to achieve impact, ensuring compliance with grant conditions and paving the way for continued support.
  • Project management – Manage end-to-end preparation of proposals and reports to ensure compliance and submission. (Identify important partners; lead kick-of meetings; set and manage tasks, milestones, and timelines; coordinate inputs such as budgets and monitoring plans from multiple teams; provide those involved with clear status updates along the way.)
  • Team support – Support donor identification and research, provide updates to leadership on our proposal pipeline, help refine team processes, and provide general editing and proofreading support.
Requirements
  • You have a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • You are experienced in proposal writing and accomplished at converting technical concepts and details into succinct and compelling prose.
  • You're experienced in creating high-quality content for a range of technical and non-technical audiences (blogs, presentations, reports).
  • You can manage complex projects with multiple team members through their life cycles.
  • You can iterate in real-time, employ data for decision-making, and innovate and pivot to find success.
  • You're mission-driven – committed to lessening inequality and improving lives.
  • You are willing to accommodate meetings with globally-located colleagues outside standard business hours.

What We Do

Evidence Action is a global non-profit operating in seven countries in Africa and Asia. We were founded in 2013 to address a big gap in the fight against global poverty–many of the most promising interventions are either implemented at a very small scale, or not at all. We set out to address this gap by building programs that would scale evidence-based and cost-effective interventions, leading to significant improvements in quality of life for hundreds of millions.

Our model worked. In less than a decade, our two flagship programs, the Deworm the World Initiative and Dispensers for Safe Water, have grown to measurably impact over 280 million people each year by supporting governments to deworm and through our last-mile delivery network providing safe water access. This success is achieved through the dedication and talent of our staff, the hard work of our partners, and the commitment of our supporters.

Every part of our work across the lifecycle of our programs is driven by evidence. This starts with the interventions we select to invest in, and continues as we use real-time data to refine and adapt our operations, including responding rapidly and effectively to resolve challenges as they arise.

Our pursuit of cost-effectiveness is driven by a recognition that when we optimize every aspect of our programs, we can reach as many people–and do as much good– as possible with each dollar. We measure value for money in terms of the number of lives we can help improve.

Scale enables our massive impact. We invest in solutions for which the need is great, and leverage existing networks like schools or community organizations to grow rapidly, minimize costs, and increase efficiencies. We think big and act urgently–because poverty does not wait.

By 2024, we seek to double our impact. We are strengthening and expanding our existing programs, and working to identify a new generation of evidence-based and cost-effective interventions that we can scale to reach millions more
