CorpsAfrica was founded in 2011 by former Peace Corps Volunteer Liz Fanning with the idea of turning community development in Africa over to local changemakers. During her own service, Liz was approached by young Moroccans who wanted to be Peace Corps Volunteers so they could help people in their own country, but she had to tell them it was only for Americans. www.corpsafrica.org

Since launching its first program in Morocco in 2013, it has expanded to 11 countries across the continent and aims to expand to all 54 of Africa’s countries in the next ten years. To date, CorpsAfrica has hosted hundreds of volunteers across Morocco, Senegal, Malawi, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, Gambia, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Ethiopia, who have completed over 800 projects, including building wells, schools, roads, and irrigation systems; establishing literacy programs; and supporting vegetable and livestock farms.

The Development Associate supports CorpsAfrica’s expanding donor base and contributes to a strong culture of philanthropy across the organization. Working closely with the Donor Relations Manager, this role helps cultivate, steward, and strengthen donor relationships through timely communication, accurate data management, and support for fundraising events and campaigns

The Development Associate will identify and qualify prospective donors, assist in implementing donor relations strategies, and support stewardship efforts across departments. The role blends donor-facing communications with behind-the-scenes operational work, including tracking, analyzing, and reporting on donor activity.
 

Classification: Full-time, exempt

Salary and Benefits: $55 - $60K
Location: Washington, DC (hybrid: 2 days/week) - remote considered
Reports To: Donor Relations Manager

• Donor Acknowledgements: Process donor receipts and acknowledgements promptly; maintain high-quality data hygiene within Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud.
• Data Management: Enter, update, and verify donor records; support reporting needs for fundraising and finance teams.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with communications, development, and regional teams to support donor engagement initiatives and events.
• Event Support: Assist with planning and executing regional donor events, including logistics, outreach, and follow-up.
• Prospect Research: Support the Donor Relations Manager in researching and qualifying major donor prospects using tools such as WealthEngine and Salesforce.
• Finance Coordination: Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate reconciliation and reporting between fundraising and financial systems.

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, event planning, etc
• Strong written and verbal communication; excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace; experience with donor databases Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud and WealthEngine preferred.
• Ability to balance event support with ongoing data management; highly collaborative and comfortable working across cultures and time zones.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
• Demonstrated commitment to CorpsAfrica’s mission, including youth leadership, participatory community development, impact evaluation, transparency, and accountability.
