Job Summary

The Development Associate supports and leads targeted projects in coordination with Chicago Booth’s Advancement Team in the Chicago Office. This position provides administrative support for the Chicago Office, collaborates with the Director, Major Gifts and all Booth gift officers in the office, and supports the fundraising goals of Chicago Booth’s Major Gifts Team. The Development Associate provides information in response to specific requests, directs calls and e-mails, and provides other relevant information to appropriate individuals while using discretion and judgment working with confidential information. The Development Associate will develop a network of professional contacts and provide assistance to other Booth and University offices that seek it. They will initiate projects that will be beneficial to the Major Gifts Team and will anticipate next steps and follow-up related to fundraising activity and active prospect management.
This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored employment authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with implementation of regional strategy, planning and executing advancement-focused events; and collaborates with University colleagues and volunteers to advance the fundraising and engagement goals of Chicago Booth.
  • Supports the planning and execution of events and contributes to the strategic development of new events and programs; staffs events as needed in Chicago.
  • In conjunction with their peers, continues to build and manage a set of internal communications for the Major Gifts and Leadership Giving Teams, partnering cross-functionally with the Communications, Donor Relations, Alumni Engagement, and Annual Fund Teams.
  • Participates in prospect strategy development as it relates to prospect qualification, cultivation and stewardship and supports gift officers with effective prospect outreach as needed.
  • Understands and remains current on institutional priorities, programs, events, engagement opportunities and has a general understanding of the diverse fundraising priorities at Chicago Booth.
  • In partnership with the Prospect Research team, supports the creation and preparation of research briefings to inform and equip senior leadership.
  • In collaboration with the Prospect Management team, maintains and shares relevant reports to assist gift officers with prospect identification, cultivation, and stewardship activities.
  • Supports fundraisers to advance giving strategies and provides administrative support for cultivation, stewardship, and donor engagement activities. 
  • Maintains accurate donor and prospect records, including entering and updating contact reports, strategy notes, event attendance, and other relevant information to ensure data integrity and support effective prospect management.
  • Assists with other advancement-focused projects as needed.
  • Helps schedule and coordinate internal meetings across the Development team.
  • Assists with identification and resolution of event and program needs, including vendor selection and contract negotiation. Keeps track of all expenses, prepares reports on costs, using existing procedures to solve routine problems as they arise.
  • Compiles data to be used in event and program evaluation. Contributes to improvements by implementing ideas as they are identified, with general direction from others.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • Work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or similar work.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn the internal workings of the University and the technology available to Chicago Booth staff, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and Yesware.
  • Learn and manipulate Booth databases.

  • A moderate understanding of fundraising operations for a school or department within a University.
