About this opportunity
Ericsson is opening a state-of-the-art R&D center in Yokohama to deliver Japan-driven radio products that shape networks worldwide. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Designer with a deep interest in radio and RF filter design to help shape the next generations of 5G and 6G radio systems.
In this role, you will develop mechanical designs for embedded filter products, handling the full lifecycle from requirement analysis to verification. You will operate in a fast-paced environment characterized by high volumes, short time-to-market, and stringent environmental and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate daily with Ericsson's global teams and interface directly with external suppliers, radio design, filter design, sourcing, and production engineering. If you are empowered to learn, lead, and perform at your best, are you in?
You will
  • Own the end-to-end mechanical design of radio filter units and related mechanical parts, from concept to volume production
  • Develop mechanical design solutions for radio filter units, enclosures and associated components, ensuring robustness, manufacturability and high performance
  • Drive pre-development of new concepts, materials and building practices to support future radio platforms
  • Participate in and contribute to building practice studies, design rules and common mechanical design principles across sites
  • Review mechanical design solutions, propose improvements and secure compliance with EMC, PIM, thermal, environmental and ingress protection requirements
  • Perform practical work with prototypes, including build, assembly, tuning and verification in the lab and relevant environments
  • Plan and execute environmental verification and robustness testing in line with internal and external standards
  • Support troubleshooting and problem solving in development and production, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate closely with filter designers, radio designers, sourcing, production, production test and engineering, as well as external suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • Drive continuous improvements of products, design methods and ways of working within the mechanical design area

You will bring
  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, including product development and verification for complex electro-mechanical products
  • Very good knowledge in die-casting (aluminum), injection molding (plastic) and sheet metal design, including design for manufacturing and cost efficiency
  • Very good understanding of other manufacturing techniques and their implications on design, tolerances and quality
  • Experience working with radio filters or RF-related mechanical design (e.g. cavities, housings, shielding, PIM-sensitive structures) is a strong advantage
  • Proficiency in modern 3D CAD and PDM/PLM tools (such as Pro/ENGINEER / Creo and PDM Link, or equivalent systems)
  • Very good knowledge of environmental and reliability requirements (temperature, vibration, humidity, corrosion, IP-rating etc.) and relevant design standards, including how to verify them in practice
  • Good understanding of electronics building practices and mechanical design rules for PCB/PBA integration and component robustness
  • Experience working with suppliers as black-box and grey-box partners, including requirement handling, design reviews and industrialization support
  • Ability to communicate in spoken and written English; Japanese language skills are an advantage
