JOB SUMMARY 

The University of Southern California’s (USC’s) Information Technology Services is seeking a talented Developer for Cloud Applications. The Developer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting software applications and solutions within USC’s Workday environment, including application development, Workday Extend, and integrations. 

The Developer will be an integral member of the Cloud Applications team, collaborating with diverse and talented team members to help solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for our campus stakeholders across a broad base of departments and constituencies. 

 

THE TEAM 

The Cloud Applications team is part of ITS Application Services within Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA). The team supports Workday and related applications across USC, including functions such as human resources, payroll, benefits, recruiting, and financials. 

 

The team works with stakeholders across the University, including USC schools and business units, staff and employees, HR, payroll, benefits, hospitals and health-system entities, system owners, and external vendors that interact with USC through Workday. 

 

This is an opportunity to join a core technology function supporting business-critical systems and processes across USC. The role will contribute to maintaining existing Workday applications and integrations while supporting application development, operational-efficiency improvements, and future initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

The Developer: 

  • Creates, develops, revises, and maintains software applications and solutions, adapting to regularly changing priorities. Ensures code is maintained, supported, and performs as intended upon implementation. Produces and presents problem-solving rationale within a variety of settings to diverse audiences. Collaborates with key stakeholders within ITS and other university departments, working to develop understanding of technical specifications and deliver features and services based on business requirements. 

  • Supports project and task planning, contributing to the development and execution of processes and procedures and ensuring alignment with university and ITS objectives and customer needs. Assists with security governance, policies, and overall university compliance by embedding standards, procedures, and quality analysis measures into workflows/plans. Identifies and communicates system issues, bugs, and fixes, and aids the initiation of process-improvement efforts within teams and across ITS. 

  • Handles and routes customer requests appropriately for tracking and resolution. Supports customer point-of-views when identifying priorities and presenting solutions, leveraging insights on customer pain points, challenges, and needs. Provides customer-focused solutions and builds and maintains effective customer relationships through timely follow-ups and efficient, effective feedback. 

  • Leverages the latest industry knowledge and best practices to facilitate innovation, continuous improvement, and effective troubleshooting and problem-solving. Proactively experiments with and analyzes new approaches and complex, diverse, and/or conflicting datasets to identify root causes. Develops and maintains knowledge base articles, tutorials, and training resources. 

  • Aids the cultivation of an inclusive environment and a culture of trust and transparency, sharing information broadly, openly, and deliberately. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with diverse team members, peers, and leaders. Actively embodies ITS values and behaviors (e.g., accountability, ethics, best-in-class customer service). 

  • Collaborates with team members and management, implementing effective solutions to support the Application Services team’s vision. Maintains currency with technology, standards, and best practices. Supports process improvement efforts within the team and across the ITS organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

The candidate for the position of Developer must meet the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

  • Two years’ experience in information technology, software development, engineering, or relevant fields. 

  • Foundational knowledge of security concepts, secure code development techniques, and the development and configuration of software solutions. 

  • Ability to understand and work with large, complex systems, write test cases for new and existing code to ensure compatibility and stability, and provide detailed information and summaries to peers and supervisors. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to establish strong, positive working relationships and rapport with diverse groups of team members. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

The ideal candidate for the position of Developer has the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in information technology. 

  • Experience in higher education. 

  • Experience with Workday applications, integrations, or related technologies. 

  • Experience with Workday Extend and/or application development within the Workday environment. 

  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and support complex applications and systems. 

  • Strong customer-facing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, learn new technologies and approaches, and work collaboratively in a high-volume environment.

WORK LOCATION 

This is a remote position. The Developer will work in a high-volume, business-critical environment supporting Workday and related applications and will interact with stakeholders across USC and with external vendors and partners. 

 

SALARY & BENEFITS 

The salary range for this position is $117,879.45-$130,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
