Senior Data Engineer – Kazakhstan (Remote)

About the Role

We're growing our technology footprint in Kazakhstan and looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our expanding regional team. You'll design, build, and deliver modern data solutions that power our operations across Eurasia and support global business initiatives.

You'll work with a modern data stack — Azure, Databricks, Python, Scala, Spark — and collaborate daily with international engineering teams on large-scale, high-impact data platforms. As a senior member of the team, you'll bring technical leadership, mentor others, and help shape best practices. The role is fully remote, open to candidates anywhere in Kazakhstan.

This is a hands-on senior data engineering role focused on building robust, scalable data pipelines and platforms. It does not include user support or helpdesk responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop complex data solutions that meet defined functional and technical requirements.
  • Architect, build, and maintain data pipelines on Azure and Databricks, supporting both batch and large-scale processing workloads.
  • Lead the migration of regional data systems to global Azure-based platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize complex data workflows, improve performance, and maintain clean, sustainable code.
  • Define and apply advanced data quality and testing standards across the team.
  • Review code, refactor legacy modules, and optimize SQL and cloud-based queries.
  • Lead medium-to-large scale data engineering initiatives within the team.
  • Mentor and onboard new engineers, and actively contribute to knowledge sharing and technical guidance.

What We're Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.

Must-Have Technical Skills

Programming

  • Python (primary language) — strong, production-level proficiency
  • Scala (Spark-level proficiency)

Cloud & Big Data

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Azure Databricks — clusters, jobs, SQL warehouses, environments, and cost monitoring
  • Apache Spark for large-scale data processing

Databases

  • MS SQL or equivalent relational database experience
  • Strong SQL skills for data transformation and query optimization

Experience & Languages

  • 5+ years of hands-on commercial data engineering experience, including a track record of delivering production-grade data solutions.
  • Proven, real-world experience with Azure + Databricks in previous senior roles.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
  • Fluent English — required for daily interaction with global teams.

What We Offer

  • A chance to join a fast-growing Kazakhstan hub delivering on global initiatives.
  • Work with modern cloud technologies and scalable data platforms.
  • Fully remote role, open to candidates from any region in Kazakhstan.
  • Collaborative culture with access to global expertise, training, and technical mentorship.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with the local market.
