Developer Experience Engineer

About the Role

Teal Drones is hiring a Developer Experience Engineer / Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our DevX Team.

You will improve the daily experience of every engineer who builds, tests, and ships software for our drone platforms.  In this role, you will enhance our software development lifecycle (SDLC) by creating and maintaining Jenkins and GitLab build pipelines, Docker environments, and AWS infrastructure to support global services to our drone customers and partners.

This is a hands-on, individual-contributor engineering role. You will spend most of your time in AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling — building the services that let our developers build, test, deploy, observe, and report on their code with as little friction as possible, all while operating inside a security-first and compliance-conscious environment.

What You'll Do

AWS Infrastructure & Global Services

  • Build and maintain AWS infrastructure that supports global services for our drone customers and partners.
  • Build and maintain reliable, self-service infrastructure (AWS, CI/CD, internal developer platform) that keeps engineers unblocked.
  • Monitor system health and proactively resolve infrastructure issues that interrupt developers' work.

Build, Test & Deployment Pipelines

  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve Jenkins and GitLab build pipelines covering build, test, deploy, observe, and report stages.
  • Reduce the time it takes engineers to build, test, and get results back from CI/CD pipelines, driving toward faster, more reliable build, test, and deploy cycles.
  • Design and maintain Docker environments used across development, test, and production pipelines.
  • Instrument pipelines to surface build times, test reliability, and deployment health.

Developer Tooling & Documentation

  • Simplify and standardize developer tooling so engineers don't have to relearn different approaches for similar tasks.
  • Improve internal documentation, onboarding, and self-service so developers spend less time reverse-engineering how systems work, reducing onboarding time for new engineers joining the platform team.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify and remove unnecessary complexity in the developer-facing parts of our systems.

Reporting

  • Track and report on pipeline health and delivery performance (e.g., build times, deployment frequency, failure and recovery rates).
  • Gather feedback from engineering teams and maintain a documented, prioritized backlog of developer tooling and pipeline improvements.
  • Report on developer tooling and pipeline health to engineering leadership.

Security & Compliance

  • Build security proficiencies directly into the pipeline (secrets management, dependency/vulnerability scanning, secure build practices, least-privilege access) so that security and compliance controls are built in rather than bolted on afterward.
  • Support CMMC Level 2 and Army compliance requirements as they relate to build, deployment, and developer tooling.
Required Qualifications
  • AWS Cloud experience — minimum 3 years, including hands-on work with core compute, storage, networking, and IAM services supporting production or global services infrastructure.
  • DevOps experience — minimum 3 years, including CI/CD pipeline design, infrastructure as code, and automation of build/release processes.
  • Hands-on code pipeline experience with Jenkins and GitLab, building and maintaining production build/deploy pipelines.
  • Experience with Docker, including building and maintaining containerized environments for build, test, or deployment.
  • Security proficiency — minimum 2 years applying security practices to infrastructure or software pipelines (e.g., secrets management, vulnerability scanning, access control, secure SDLC practices).
  • Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle and code pipeline: build, test, deploy, observe, and report.
  • Strong scripting/automation ability (e.g., Python, Bash, or similar) and comfort working in Linux environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work directly with engineers to diagnose and resolve friction in their workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; able to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for engineers and leadership.
  • U.S. Person status required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance in support of an Army Program of Record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Yocto/BitBake or other embedded Linux build systems.
  • Experience with observability/monitoring stacks (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
  • Experience supporting CMMC Level 2 or other DoD/federal compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with embedded or robotics/drone software platforms.
  • FAA Part 107 (Remote Pilot) certification — optional, a plus but not required.
