Lead a high-performing engineering team at Sedgwick
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated professional to join Sedgwick as a Desktop Engineering Lead. This role combines technical motor engineering expertise with people leadership, offering the opportunity to drive operational performance, quality standards, and exceptional customer outcomes across our engineering function.
As Desktop Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of Desktop Motor Engineers, ensuring claims are handled efficiently, accurately, and in line with client requirements, industry standards, and service level agreements. You will play a key role in coaching colleagues, supporting technical decision-making, and driving continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, develop and motivate a team of Desktop Engineers.
- Manage day-to-day workflow, workload allocation and resource planning.
- Ensure service level agreements and operational targets are consistently achieved.
- Provide technical guidance on complex repair methodologies, vehicle damage assessments and total loss decisions.
- Monitor quality standards through audits and file reviews.
- Support client relationships and act as an escalation point for technical and operational issues.
- Analyse trends and identify opportunities for training and process improvement.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, client requirements and industry regulations.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and customer excellence.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Significant experience within motor engineering, vehicle damage assessment or claims engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge of vehicle repair methodologies, modern vehicle construction, total loss processes and vehicle valuations.
- Experience negotiating repair costs, methodologies and total loss settlements.
- Previous leadership, supervisory or team management experience.
- Demonstrable ability to coach, mentor and develop colleagues.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Experience of working within agreed service and performance targets.
- A strong customer and client-focused approach.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- ATA Accreditation (or working towards accreditation).
- Experience using Audatex or similar estimating platforms.
- Strong understanding of vehicle construction and repair techniques.
- Sound knowledge of insurance principles and claims handling processes.
- Ability to make independent decisions and provide technical direction.
- Excellent organisational and workload management skills
Desirable Qualifications
- Institute of Automotive Engineer Assessors (IAEA) Corporate Membership.
- Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Membership.
- Recognised motor trade apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Automotive Engineering.
- ATA VDA Accreditation.
