Position: R&D Member of Technical Staff II, Product Development

Location: Hyderabad – Hybrid (~60% office, ~40% remote, 100% office first 6 months)

The Job 

As part of AVEVA's asset lifecycle management (ALM) team you will work with a group of software developers developing AVEVA's asset lifecycle management solution. The ALM team works closely with the other teams developing AVEVA's product portfolio especially using software components provided by the Platform Group and by extending or integrating other software products out of AVEVA's product portfolio. 

The software developer will be responsible for developing solutions to satisfy asset lifecycle management requirements, helping other developers during the development process, giving attention to usability and consistency across the AVEVA product suite. You will also be expected to leverage AI-assisted development tools and practices responsibly, understanding when and how to apply AI capabilities to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and security standards. 

You will participate in software development, provide development documentation, and ensure work is reviewed and tested at all stages of development; always striving to support the overall aim of AVEVA products to be market leaders. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research possible product enhancements. 

  • Participate and comment in review sessions. 

  • Implement approved enhancements to products; reporting on progress against estimate and highlighting unexpected technical issues. 

  • Help other developers during the whole development lifecycle. 

  • Write development documentation and create promotion material for implemented product enhancements. 

  • Provide 3rd level support to customers, for issues relating to the usage of the developed products in production releases. 

  • Providing Technical Analysis within Projects. 

  • Preparation of detailed task breakdown and estimates. 

  • Ensuring that content matches the approved specification. 

  • Consideration of security aspects during development. 

  • Merge changes into the Configuration Management system and ensure the subsequent integrity of code. 

  • Report inconsistencies across AVEVA's design and security standards to management. 

  • Utilise AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve development productivity while critically reviewing all AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability. 

  • Apply appropriate AI models and agents to development tasks, selecting the right tool for the right problem (e.g., code generation, test scaffolding, documentation drafting, code review assistance). 

  • Craft effective prompts and instructions when working with AI tools to achieve accurate, context-aware results aligned with project requirements. 

Essential Requirements 

  • A Computer Science, Math or equivalent Degree or experience. 

  • At least three years of experience in Desktop Application development. 

  • Experienced in using the Visual Studio and .Net development environment. 

  • Competence in object-oriented software design, with appreciation of coding and design for maintainability, extensibility, testability, and reuse. 

  • Familiar with agile software development processes especially Scrum. 

Foundational understanding of AI-assisted development, including: 

  • Awareness of when to use AI tools and when manual implementation is more appropriate. 

  • Ability to write clear, effective prompts to guide AI code-generation and reasoning tools. 

  • Understanding of different AI model types (e.g., chat models, code-completion models, reasoning models) and their suitable use cases. 

  • Basic knowledge of AI guardrails and safety principles, including output validation, responsible use policies, and awareness of hallucination risks.

  • Good communication skills, working with a broad range of people, including Product Owners, Testers and Product Support across sites. 

  • Task based, multi-site configuration management, e.g. ADO and Git. 

  • Developing software deployed on-premises. 

  • Test Driven Development. 

  • Technical depth in Desktop application development. 

  • Good breadth of knowledge across all the design patterns. 

  • Pair Programming, Continuous Integration. 

  • Public speaking and presentation skills. 

  • User interface and user experience design. 

  • Ability to deliver against content, quality and date. 

  • Ability to estimate tasks, using task breakdown and advice from colleagues. 

  • Methodical and organized. 

  • Self-starter, demonstrating ownership of tasks from inception to delivery. 

  • Responsive to the needs of management, colleagues, and business representatives. 

  • Experience with AI agents and agentic workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot Agents, multi-step AI task automation) and understanding of how to define agent instructions, context boundaries, and success criteria. 

  • Knowledge of prompt engineering best practices, including structured prompting, few-shot examples, and iterative refinement techniques. 

  • Familiarity with AI guardrails and governance, including input/output validation, content filtering, model selection rationale, and compliance with organisational AI usage policies. 

  • Understanding of when NOT to use AI, recognising scenarios involving sensitive data, security-critical logic, or domain-specific precision where human judgement must take precedence. 

  • Awareness of emerging AI development patterns such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), tool-use patterns, and context management strategies.
