The Designer creates and revises detailed 3D models and related documentation, supports product development, monitors PDM processes, and ensures compliance with design standards while collaborating with engineers and technicians.

Position Summary

The Designer creates complex parametric and non-parametric 3D models, detailed product drawings, drawing revisions, bills of material, product design layouts, schematics, and other documentation required to build products according to customer specifications, performance requirements, and project schedules.

Working under the direction of engineers on conceptual design, the Designer is expected to exercise broad latitude in detailing product components and sub-systems while guiding Design Technicians and ensuring adherence to established design standards and product objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support product development by identifying design and layout constraints and generating/reviewing models, layouts, sketches, and related documentation to determine product functionality and feasibility
  • Check in/out CAD models and documents in the PDM system following established procedures and ensure team compliance
  • Monitor PDM processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support other departments by addressing technical questions
  • Interpret manufacturing drawings, including dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerances, and spatial relationships
  • Review design drawings to identify errors and opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction
  • Convert conceptual designs into fully developed 3D models with input from engineers and designers
  • Execute assigned tasks according to project schedules with a focus on 100% on-time delivery
  • Operate precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) to measure components and assemblies
  • Analyze components and create accurate 3D models based on measurements
  • Occasionally travel (<10%) to support installation, observation, and measurement activities
  • Comply with all company policies, including ISO 9001 standards, safety procedures, and drug-free workplace requirements
  • Maintain regular attendance as an essential function of the role
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field, OR
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred
  • Experience with CATIA or SolidWorks required
  • Experience with SmarTeam or ENOVIA preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with FEA tools (ANSYS, COSMOS, or equivalent)
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing processes and instructions
  • Experience using precision hand tools and measurement equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, standards, and manuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
  • Strong willingness to learn and apply new skills
  • Bias for action and ownership mindset
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and journals
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to present information to management and external partners
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including exponents, logarithms, and quadratic equations
  • Ability to apply statistical and analytical methods such as variance, correlation, sampling theory, and factor analysis
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions
  • Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
  • Self-starter capable of working under general supervision in a fast-paced environment
