Job Role:

We are looking for a Design Manager to oversee our Mumbai-based design studio, which delivers template-based collateral and desktop publishing services for Milliman practices and corporate teams worldwide. You will manage and mentor a team of production designers and desktop publishing designers, ensuring consistent quality, brand compliance, and timely delivery across high-volume, process-driven work.

This role focuses on production excellence and reports directly to the head of Brand & Creative. You will ensure that every deliverable meets Milliman's brand standards while optimizing workflows for efficiency and scale. As a people manager, you will develop team capabilities, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of precision and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production designers and desktop publishing designers
    • Provide regular feedback and conduct performance evaluations
    • Manage resource allocation and workload balancing across the Design and Desktop Publishing functions
    • Foster a culture of quality, efficiency, and accountability
    • Partner with Creative Operations on capacity planning and project prioritization
    • Work with leadership to establish, track, and report KPIs for throughput, quality, and turnaround time
  • Quality Assurance & Brand Standards:
    • Review and approve all work before delivery to ensure brand consistency and design quality
    • Ensure adherence to Milliman brand guidelines, templates, and visual identity standards
    • Identify and address recurring quality issues through coaching and process improvement
    • Serve as the escalation point for complex formatting or layout challenges
    • Maintain and improve template libraries and design system documentation
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee execution of template-based collateral (flyers, brochures, event materials, signage, social graphics)
    • Oversee delivery of desktop publishing services (PowerPoint and Word presentations, proposals, and documents)
    • Ensure service level commitments are met for turnaround times and revision cycles
    • Balance multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality standards
    • Manage iterative workflows across time zones with US and Europe-based team members
  • Collaboration:
    • Partner with Design Director (US) to ensure alignment on brand standards and creative direction
    • Coordinate with Project Managers (US) on project intake, prioritization, and delivery timelines
    • Communicate proactively on capacity constraints, timeline risks, and quality issues
    • Support seamless handoffs between US and Asia teams
  • Process & Efficiency:
    • Identify opportunities to streamline production workflows and improve efficiency
    • Document best practices and standard operating procedures for production work
    • Support onboarding of new team members with training on tools, templates, and brand standards
    • Stay current with design software capabilities, AI, and emerging tools that support production efficiency

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Graduate degree or certification in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field
  • 6–10 years of hands-on experience in production design, desktop publishing, or corporate design teams
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing design teams
  • Strong foundation in typography, layout, and print/digital production techniques
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint, Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain quality standards across high-volume, fast-paced work
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with ability to give clear, constructive feedback
  • Experience working with brand guidelines and template systems

Preferred:

  • Experience in professional services, consulting, financial services, or insurance industries
  • Experience with project management tools (Wrike, Box, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems
  • Understanding of subscription-based service delivery models
  • Experience managing distributed or offshore teams
