We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager / Technical Director – Maritime to join our Queensland Maritime team. The role will ideally be based in Brisbane, although candidates located in other Queensland offices may also be considered.
This opportunity can be shaped around the experience of the successful candidate. You’ll join a high-performing team delivering interesting and challenging projects across sectors including ports, Defence, transport, energy and advisory services, in Australia and internationally.
Together with our clients, we are thinking and doing things differently to help pre-empt and prepare for what’s next. You’ll be able to draw on our global network of skills and experience to deliver positive outcomes that respect nature and nurture communities.
Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position will see you involved in:

  • Leading the planning, assessment, design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects including wharves, jetties, ferry terminals, port developments, marinas, pontoons and seawalls.

  • Leading design teams, including engineers, scientists and drafters, to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

  • Managing project scope, quality, program, budget, risk and design interfaces across the project lifecycle.

  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with other disciplines on complex projects.

  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Preparing proposals and pursuing opportunities to support the growth of the maritime team.

  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports, specifications and design documentation.

  • Coaching and mentoring developing engineers and contributing to a strong team culture.

  • Providing design management and technical leadership across projects in Australia and internationally.

What you will bring to the team

  • Degree qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Approximately 10+ years' experience in the assessment, analysis, design and remediation of maritime structures.
  • Experience leading the design and delivery of maritime infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated capability in design management, stakeholder management and project delivery.
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian and international maritime design standards and guidelines.
  • Strong commercial judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Chartered status (or working toward chartership) and RPEQ registration, or the ability to obtain it.
  • A passion for developing people through coaching and mentoring.

Eligibility for Australian Defence Security Clearance favourably considered (but not mandatory).
For candidates appointed at Technical Director level, additional experience in technical leadership, client development, business growth and the delivery of major multidisciplinary projects will be highly regarded.
