About the Role
As ‘Design Manager – Experience (Robot)’, you will own the end-to-end user journey across all physical and digital touchpoints for Dyson’s robotic products. You will elevate the robot experience through defining user-facing requirements and ensuring these are delivered—on time, to spec, within budget, and with uncompromising quality.
Applying deep expertise in robotics, you will collaborate with the cross-functional project leadership team - balancing business priorities, user needs, and innovation opportunities, always focused on maximising value and impact to the user.
Key Responsibilities
Vision & Strategy
Define physical and digital requirements for all user experience aspects across robotics projects.
Translate emerging robotics trends, technologies, and user behaviours into forward-looking experience strategies.
Maintain a sophisticated understanding of the robotics landscape – translating cutting-edge developments into differentiated Dyson experiences.
Anticipate industry evolution and define experience strategies that position Dyson at the forefront of in-home robotics over the next 3-5 years.
Gather insights and recommendations from cross-functional teams (Business Unit, Innovation, Commercial, Customer, IT, Legal) to form and prioritise physical and digital product features.
Stakeholder Alignment
Translate business needs, robot-specific user insights, and new opportunities into clear requirements—balancing time, cost, spec, and quality.
Drive alignment across Dyson stakeholders and work closely with technical leads to validate feasibility and delivery of features, prioritising as required.
Act as the key voice translating complex robotics concepts into clear, user-centric requirements.
Physical Experience (Product & Packaging)
Define high-level product experience features and requirements for robotic products, from unboxing to end-of-life.
Collaborate with Design & Product Experience Designers to develop user journeys for different home environments and scenarios.
Guarantee seamless experiences across the entire product experience – including buttons, sensors, screens, apps, voice commands, and packaging.
Digital Experience (App & Screen)
Define and prioritise digital user experience features and requirements, captured through experience briefs and Product Requirement Documents, and tested by software teams.
Work with Digital User Experience Designers to guide and contextualise user journeys, considering edge cases and faults.
Review competitor analysis and user trials for continuous improvement.
Ensure app screens are reviewed and signed off by senior stakeholders early in a project, then handed to Hardware and Software teams for delivery and testing.
Out-of-Box Experience
Oversee the requirement-setting, design, and testing of physical packaging and onboarding materials.
Make sure essential product information is consistent and available across web, app, and printed materials.
App Content Assets
Ensure app image and asset requirements are defined (with Digital User Experience Designer) and delivered on schedule by commercial teams.
Guarantee all app film requirements (with Content Strategy & Design Manager) are clearly briefed and delivered.
Integrate asset delivery plans into the overall project schedule, collaborating with the Programme Manager.
Additional Expectations
Consistently drive alignment and clear communication between teams, ensuring timely, high-quality results.
Champion continuous improvement—in both process and outcome—with a strong drive for excellence.
About You
Qualifications / Experience
Degree in Engineering, Design, Robotics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Significant experience working on robotic or autonomous products, with a strong track record of delivering exceptional user experiences across physical and digital domains.
Deep understanding of human-robot interaction, ideally within consumer or home environments.
Sharp awareness of the robotics landscape, with the ability to translate emerging capabilities into products that feel intuitive and ahead of their time.
Strong personal intuition for robotic products – ideally grounded in hands-on use and observation of real-world behaviours.
Extensive experience managing technical or manufactured products from concept through to delivery, in a cross-functional environment.
