Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
Atlassian is used by teams around the world for everything from pizza deliveries to space travel. To help us achieve our mission of unleashing the potential of every team, the Atlassian Creative Team is looking for a Lead Designer to guide how our identity system evolves and scales across a growing portfolio and audience. We're looking for someone who pairs brand strategy and identity expertise with a deep understanding of how individual systems connect to create a brand. You'll be a hands-on player/coach who is actively on the tools and owning the quality of the work.
In this role, you'll
- Shape and evolve the Atlassian brand system: its core elements, how it all scales, and the vision for where it goes next.
- Lead brand systems projects from brief to delivery, directing designers, art directors, and copywriters and setting the creative bar for the work.
- Be the main point of contact for leadership, clients, and agency partners. You'll align on goals, manage feedback, and keep projects moving.
- Partner with other design teams across Atlassian so that our brand and product systems connect into one coherent experience for our customers.
- Extend the brand into new territories, developing product and sub-brands alongside strategy, marketing, and product teams.
- Turn the brand system into living, AI-ready guidance and tools that people and AI can both work from, so teams and partners can create on-brand work independently and quickly.
- Shape how our team uses AI in brand work. Set the standard for where it belongs across concepting, production, and review, and protect quality as these tools become part of how work gets made.
On the first day, we'll expect you to have
- 8+ years of professional experience, with a portfolio of ambitious brand systems work and problem-solving at scale.
- A track record of leading complex, multidisciplinary projects and directing other creatives toward a shared vision.
- Deep expertise in the core elements of identity, including typography, color, layout, grid, hierarchy, iconography, and imagery. You bring a clear aesthetic point of view and an uncompromising eye for detail and quality.
- Applied experience building and evolving design systems for brands, with a technical understanding of how they're implemented at scale. You know how type, color, and layout behave across print, web, product, and motion, and you can turn brand decisions into tokens, specs, and assets that teams and engineers can use.
- Strong stakeholder and agency management skills. You build alignment, balance competing priorities, give clear creative direction, and earn the trust of leadership.
- Fluency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Keynote, and hands-on experience with AI tools for generation, workflow building, and automation.
- A considered point of view on AI's role in brand and creative work. You've used it in real projects, you can judge generated work critically, and you can guide a team on where it helps without lowering the bar.
- A collaborative mindset: you seek out feedback, mentor others, and believe the best work comes from productive debate.
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range.
