Basic Purpose of the Position:

The Design Engineer is a critical role responsible for managing the engineering aspects of localization. This position combines form/fit/function analysis, value engineering, localized design, BOM management and cross-functional collaboration to optimize local manufacturing and aftermarket parts availability.

Major Responsibility Area #1: Design for local manufacturing

  • Working in teams on the development of concepts, testing, investigation and verification of concepts and designs.
  • To execute the maintenance and mechanical design of machinery, layouts, assemblies and components, to fulfill the design and requirements, to prepare assembly/detail drawings and part lists.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising product quality or delivery schedules.
  • Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives at the Site level.
  • Engage cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful VAVE implementation and savings capturing.

Major Responsibility Area #2: Parts localization

  • Identifying and evaluating new suppliers in collaboration with operations, aftermarket and global sourcing teams.
  • Paying attention to the function, reliability, safety, production technologies and cost.
  • Engage cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful parts implementation and savings capturing.

Major Responsibility Area #3: Technical documentation

  • Review and update technical documentation in accordance with localization.
  • Distribute necessary technical documentation to customers, site supervisors, and suppliers. 

Education:

  • Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Skills and Experience:

  • Mandatory: Minimum of 5 years in engineering, with a strong background in production processes.
  • Knowledge of the food processing industry requirements.
  • Good understanding of mechanics and industrial automation.
  • Experience with or knowledge of 3D design tools.
  • Experience with and comfort working in multi-cultural, multi-discipline organization.
  • Excellent skills in written and spoken English.

Travel Requirements:

  • Frequent visits to JBTM plant and local suppliers will be required.
  • Some international travel may be required.
