Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) in support of ISS and Artemis programs. In this position the employee will be located in the Leidos facility in Webster Texas.
Some domestic and international travel may be required.
This design engineering position will support a variety of design tasks associated with space flight hardware for ISS and Artemis, as well as some commercial work. The selected candidate will work closely with the sustaining team to make updates to existing designs, as well with the projects team to develop new hardware. There is a large variety of the type of hardware sustained and developed at CMC, from Commercial Off The Shelf(COTS) items, cabling, cargo bags, Extravehicular Activities(EVA), Ground Support Equipment(GFE), electronics, stowage lockers, etc. In addition, there are several commercial projects worked such as mockups and flight hardware for other commercial space companies. CMC has a fantastic award fee record with 20+ years supporting NASA and is into its 4th contract.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work independently and in a team environment to analyze requirements from the customer and develop design solutions
- Design, develop, test, handle implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems
- Perform engineering design evaluations and present findings to leadership and customers
- Perform trade studies and create out brief presentations for leadership and customers
- Produce engineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500 and other applicable standards
- Perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis and functional analysis which including form, fit and function
- Produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
- Experience in the NASA JEDII repository
- Prepare and present designs at various design reviews
- Coordinate and support manufacturing work with vendors
- Produce other required design documentation as required
- Evaluate designs for cost and manufacturability
- Optimizing designs to minimize cost and schedule impacts
- Communicates with internal and client project team members. Works to influence team members regarding solution design, process and/or approaches
- Perform other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years prior relevant experience, including:
- Experience designing simple to complex mechanical designs
- Experience working with multi-discipline teams and customers and both strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with presenting technical and financial project status to large groups such as technical NASA boards
- Must have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
- Must have experience using PTC CREO CAD software and WINDCHILL
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Familiarization with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500)
- Experience designing flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC based projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past experience designing of NASA flight and GSE hardware with fluid and cabling.
- Soft goods design.

Pay Range:Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
