Job Purpose:

Weatherford are looking for an experienced Design Engineer with a strong background in the Oil & Gas industry, preferably with hands-on experience in Wireline Services or Drilling Services product lines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end design of mechanical components and systems—from conceptual design and CAD modeling to prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support. This role requires strong technical capability, project handling skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders as and when required.

The Design Engineer is responsible for performing routine to moderately complex engineering tasks related to the design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and equipment. The role supports both new product development and enhancements to existing systems by applying strong foundational engineering principles, industry standards, and established internal procedures. 

This position requires proficiency in mechanical design, 3D/2D CAD modeling, engineering documentation, and product data management. Work is performed under general supervision, with periodic review by senior engineers, supervisors, or project leaders to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives. 

The Design Engineer is expected to contribute to cost-effective, reliable design solutions; and execute assigned tasks with quality and efficiency. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and ensure full compliance with safety, quality, and operational requirements. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Engineering: Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (INVENTOR, Creo, DraftSight / AutoCAD, Windchill PLM). 
  • Perform routine engineering tasks using established procedures, including material selection, tolerance studies and verification of designs by applicable standards. 
  • Develop and review engineering layouts to ensure fit, form, and function compliance with design specifications. 
  • Execute specific engineering assignments for new or existing products within predefined design parameters. 
  • Prepare and update engineering design documentation, drawings, and technical files. 
  • Perform drafting activities in Inventor, Creo or Draft Side/AutoCAD, including working from marked-up prints and coordinating with product line superiors for drawing creation.
  •  Support Windchill activities such as data loading, model clean-up, and part file management after receiving required training. 
  • Ensure high-quality execution of assigned tasks by following defined engineering processes and standards. 
  • Provide regular status and progress reports; plan and manage work to meet scheduled deliverables.

  •  Work effectively as a team member and maintain flexibility in handling assigned tasks. 
  • Coordinate with CAD Analysts, Team Leads, and Project Leads to execute project requirements.
  • Identify and resolve routine engineering issues independently; escalate complex issues to senior engineers when necessary. 
  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules, engineering standards, and company policies. 
  • Project Management: Define project scope, timelines; monitor progress to ensure timely delivery. 
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with manufacturing, purchasing, and clients to optimize designs for production.
  • Documentation: Maintain technical documentation, including assembly instructions, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and compliance reports.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. - 
  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a mechanical/design engineer in the oil & gas industry. 
  • Experience in Wireline Tools, Drilling Services or Downhole Equipment is highly preferred.
  •  Strong engineering fundamentals with excellent knowledge of mechanical design principles, calculations, materials, and industry standards. (Oil & gas industry knowledge is preferred) 
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing setup or working with manufacturing engineering teams. • Practical, expert-level proficiency in Inventor is preferred. Additional knowledge of Creo, DraftSight/AutoCAD, and Windchill will be considered an advantage.
