ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The RiseBoro Home Delivered Meals (HDML)/Meals-on-Wheels program provides thousands of meals daily to various communities in Brooklyn, NY. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director and Director, the Deliverer of HDML is responsible for the daily delivery of meals to homebound clients. The Deliverer is required to maintain delivery records.  Specific duties and responsibilities include:  

  • Deliver packed food to homebound clients and food satellites
  • Deliver holiday or emergency food packages to homebound clients
  • Assist with ensuring appropriate packing of meals to ensure proper temperatures are maintained
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle 
  • Record meal delivery and collect and record client contributions on route sheets
  • Notify the coordinator of any changes in client status or inability to deliver
  • Adhere to DFTA’s Face to Face policy ensuring meals are delivered to the individual indicated on the route sheet
  • Learn new routes to provide coverage when needed
  • Move unpacked and stored food and supplies as required
  • Deliver supplies and paper goods to other agency programs and subcontractors
  • Deliver program material and information to homebound clients
  • Assist with CMOW Monthly deliveries
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor of the site

  • Self-starter with a positive attitude; strong interpersonal skills; customer service oriented 
  • Ability to walk long distances and climb stairs as needed; Ability to lift/carry up to 30lbs and to push a shopping cart
  • Knowledge of and a genuine concern for the physical, mental, and emotional needs of older persons
  • Ability to be organized with attention to detail
  • Highly observant and aware of one’s environment
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to understand, read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to read maps and follow printed directions; strong ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to manage efficiently and execute assigned tasks
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively including the use of RiseBoro’s communication tools i.e. MS Teams, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to use MS Office and other applications
  • Knowledge of the Brooklyn, NY area and various communities is a plus

  • Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.) 
     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Some completed High School or equivalent coursework required; High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Driver’s license preferred
