Job Summary
The Dean, First-Year Experience (FYE) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision in the development, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive programs and initiatives that support the transition, retention, and academic success of first-year students. This senior-level role involves significant collaboration with faculty, staff, administrators, and various campus departments to create an integrated and supportive experience for new students, ensuring their successful adjustment to college life. The Dean, First-Year will lead efforts to create a first-year experience program focusing on high-impact retention and persistence efforts.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Lead strategic initiatives that enhance the academic and social integration of first-year students that align with Dallas College’s goals and mission.

Provide administrative oversight of FYE including New Student Orientation, first-year success coaching, and other co-curricular programs that support student success in the first year.

Provide strategic leadership to create a cohesive and supportive environment for first-year students.

Foster innovation in program development, incorporating best practices and current trends in first-year student success.

Oversee early alert strategies for FYE students through extensive interaction and collaboration.

Enhance student engagement and support through success coaching, mentoring, and support services tailored to first-year students.

Advocate for first-year students, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed within the broader institutional context.

Provide strategies focusing on academic success, student connection, and engagement, as well as pathways and career alignment activities.

Provide leadership and oversight for the implementation of FYE Success Coaching, New Student Orientation, and other co-curricular programs, learning communities, and first-year program development with a focus on improving student outcomes.

Provide direct supervision to the Directors of FYE, NSO, and other assigned staff.

Oversees a focused team of FYE Student Success Coaches, a central Student Success role, responsible for providing case management to first-year students providing high-impact engagement, advising, continuous tracking, and support from enrollment to the completion of first-year milestones.

Student Success Coaches are the consistent single point of contact, responsible for helping Dallas College students to navigate their higher education journey towards a meaningful and well-paying career.

Coordinates and implements strategic initiatives for comprehensive case management for a team of Success Coaches focusing on first-year experience.

Ensure appropriate levels of integration between success coaching, academic, and career-related needs.

Manage the budget for first-year experience programs, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.

Lead committees and working groups focused on first-year student success and retention.
-
Oversee the design, execution, and assessment of first-year experience programs.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of first-year programs to evaluate their effectiveness and impact.

Utilize data and student feedback to inform program enhancement and strategic planning.

Prepare and present reports on first-year initiatives, outcomes, and future directions.

Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in higher education, student development, community college leadership, or related field. Official transcripts are required.

Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative leadership experience in a higher education setting with demonstrated experience in case-managed academic advising and/or success coaching, or FYE programs.

Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsite travel.

Bilingual and multilingual preferred.
