Job Description
Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for
maintenance, administration of FINCA Uganda’s Database infrastructure including
but not limited to Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL and other corporate databases.
Key duties and
responsibilities:
The Database Administrator will be responsible for
the following:
1. Installing, configuring, maintaining and monitoring
the corporate databases.
2. Ensuring adequate security safeguards are in place
to control access to all databases
3. Ensuring the integrity of database files through
daily monitoring of database backups, logs, journals and transaction statistics
4. Overseeing the proper distribution and controlled
replication of data across secondary and disaster recovery databases
5. Allocating disk space for new data tables and
monitoring space utilization for existing data tables
6. Making adjustments to the table sizes and
allocations to ensure efficient use of resources and to optimize performance.
7. Implementing database backup and recovery plans and
performing database recoveries as per the disaster plan recoveries.
8. Testing database backups in line with the standard
operating procedures
9. Developing strategies to optimize database
performance and planning for capacity growth requirements
10. Preparing periodic reports on the status of all
database systems including performance data, economics data and database usage
11. Deploying and maintaining Data Reporting Systems
Environment and other Data ETL tools
12. Providing assigned data & technical support of
core banking solutions

a) Strong knowledge of Oracle/MS SQL/databases
b) Knowledge of programming in SQL, PL, SQL
c) Knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating
systems
d) Excellent communication and management skills with
ability to manage work of subordinate employees.
e) Good leadership and team building skills
f) Professionalism
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or
Information Technology or Software Engineering or Information Systems or any
other relevant field.
2. Oracle/MS SQL/Certification is preferred

Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- At least 3 years of experience as a Database Administrator in a reputable organization
- Strong knowledge of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and databases
- Knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL programming
- Knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
- Oracle or Microsoft SQL certification
- Excellent communication and management skills, including the ability to manage subordinate employees
- Leadership and team-building skills
