Role Purpose
The role is responsible for the Management of the ORACLE, MS SQL and Database Platforms across Telecel Ghana.
Responsible for ensuring resource support in Testing and Deployment of new components and also
providing Level 1/2/3 technical support resources in support across the Database Estate in Telecel Ghana
Key Responsibilities
- Provides technical expertise and decision making for appropriate level DB system environments on issues relating to servers, local services, Datacentre DB environment, DB configuration and to ensure that Telecel’s IT DBA needs as a business are met on a day-to-day basis and coordinate the efforts of other

- Provides consulting in requirements definition, specification, design, development, and integration of systems and database management on complex projects accountable for the IT Database delivery to ensure services adhere to project specifications.
- Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives across the IT database estate
- Manage Project deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT database systems.
- Investigates and resolves escalated issues within the Database environments and ensures provision of adequate technical and personnel resources are devoted to solutions.
- Reviews tests, integrations, maintenance, and solutions of less experienced personnel on larger projects, for appropriateness and accuracy.
- Communicates, maintains, and establishes principles, directions, and standards related to distributed database environments to meet end user and company needs.
- Oversees and supports periodic maintenance and upgrades of respective DB environments.
- Work closely with Key Telecel Vendors in understanding their technical road maps and factoring this into LRP Planning with Head of Infrastructure, Head of Architecture & Strategy and CIO.
- Assist with the backup and restore of system databases
Must have Technical / Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of Database administration, 2 of which should have been in a technical management capacity
- 2 to 3 years’ experience with MS SQL and Oracle Support
- 2 to 3 years’ experience with database Clustering
- 2 to 3 years’ experience with Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART)
- Good overview of IT systems and technologies
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field
- 3+ years of database administration experience, with at least 2 years in a technical management capacity
- 2-3 years' experience supporting MS SQL
- 2-3 years' experience supporting Oracle
- 2-3 years' experience with database clustering
- 2-3 years' experience with Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART)
- Good overview of IT systems and technologies
