Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate discussions with Business partners (Underwriters, Actuaries, Products) to ensure alignment of priorities. Translate high level strategic themes to tangible deliverables which will be developed
  • Collaborate with business and subject matter experts to map and document current and future processes from end to end
  • Collaborate with the business to gather, analyze, interpret, document, and influence business requirements (both functional and non-functional) and acceptance criteria for process improvements and system enhancements
  • Negotiate technical and non-technical solutions that both satisfy the business users and conform to the technical architecture. Drive design decisions which optimize overall quality and performance
  • Act as a liaison (Application Product Owner) between developers and users to provide business critical or technical solutions that meet user needs and improve their business processes
  • Identify project interdependencies and communicate requirement/scope issues and participate in driving them to resolution for inclusion in system requirements
  • Assist with the development and execution of effective test plans
  • Develop supporting documentation, including creating and maintaining technical procedures/manuals, operational support documentation, conceptual designs, and source documents
  • Provide escalated user support and technical guidance to Production users

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in group insurance (Mid and/or Large market) underwriting for any variety of Financial Protection Group products: Life, Long Term Disability (LTD), Short Term Disability (STD), and Supplemental Health for Voluntary and Employer Paid plan designs
  • 3+ years of experience serving as a team lead or subject matter expert responsible to lead or mentor others through business process and Underwriting tools/applications (May be formal or informal)
  • 1+ years of experience with process improvement, workflow, and/or evaluation of business processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of products including product and contract provisions, plan designs, pricing and various funding arrangements
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to work independently to meet time sensitive business critical deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and consensus seek across a matrixed organization
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience developing documentation and artifacts which convey and demonstrate the business and technical needs
  • Demonstrated experience coaching business users to continually improve their initial requirements
  • Demonstrated success in advocating and championing for business needs
  • Demonstrated experience working within a defined development life cycle methodology including Agile.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Power Point and Visio

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado resident s is $79,700 to $142,600. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $87,900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
