Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Database Services, this individual's primary role will be to support the installation, administration, configuring, and support of our SQL Server 2014 thru 2019 offerings and associated databases on Windows 2016/2019 Standard servers in a high availability, multiple databases, and server environment. The successful candidate for this position will be analytical and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and problem solve. Additionally, they must be highly skilled in working with business users, external parties, and other technology groups (developers, network, system admins, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational support of all databases ranging in size from small to very large, to include development, staging, and Production.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all resource bottlenecks are quickly identified and resolved for operational availability.
  • Review overall physical database structures for data integrity, quality, recoverability, maintenance, and physical storage requirements.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
  • Support and configure security settings - support users as well as maintain security standards.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • Provides support before, during, and after normal business hours as well as nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ensure that database security is effectively managed, and policies are reviewed on a regular basis.



Requirements

  • Experience with SQL 2012-2019 Architecture, i.e., Availability Groups. Install, configure, and maintain cluster environment, including AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Active-Passive failover clustering implementations.
  • Experience working with MS Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse environments.
  • Complete understanding of DR technologies utilizing log shipping and Availability Groups and can demonstrate/ensure that log shipping and AG are in sync. Experience with designing a disaster recovery solution between AG groups.
  • Experience in migrating and supporting databases in a cloud environment.
  • Extensive understanding of Microsoft backup methodologies.
  • Experience with setup and scheduling SQL Server Agent jobs.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services and, to a lesser degree, exposure to other Microsoft Reporting Tools (Performance Point, PowerPivot, PowerView).
  • Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
  • ETL tool development experience (SSIS - SQL Server Integration Services) is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows PowerShell is preferred.
  • Participation with SQL Service Broker is preferred.
  • Experience with background screening is preferred.
  • Hands-on exposure with NoSQL or Big Data is preferred.
  • Understanding of one of the three big cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS) is preferred.
  • Relevant business management systems such as general ledger, HRIS, CRM, etc. is preferred.
  • Experience with the legal/court system is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship skills.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with 7+ years overall IT database experience, 5 years experience with SQL Server or similar RDBMS platform.
  • Certifications or licensure: (DP-300) Azure Database Administrator Associate. Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Company's liability insurance carrier is required.



Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • This position is performed in an office setting although off-site meetings in various settings occur.
  • The schedule is generally normal business hours although there is a requirement to perform work, attend meetings and events before or after normal workings hours, and occasionally on weekends and evenings.
  • Some travel by personal automobile and a valid drivers' license is required. Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • Lift light objects [less than 20 pounds] and carry them short distances [20 feet or less].
