The Role

Job Overview:

The Data Team Business Analyst/Scrum Master owns requirements gathering, user story creation, and partner check-ins to facilitate the development of data infrastructure and tooling within the data team. Acting as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the data team, this role ensures that user needs are clearly defined, translated into actionable user stories, and scored for impact & urgency. The Business Analyst/Scrum Master also facilitates sprint planning, backlog grooming, and other scrum ceremonies, ensuring the team stays on track and delivers maximum business value.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather requirements from the data team's cross-functional partners.
  • Translate business requirements into clear, concise, and testable user stories, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria
  • In collaboration with cross-functional partners, determine business value and timeframe of candidate initiatives to drive effective prioritization
  • Act as the primary liaison between cross-functional partners and the data team to ensure project alignment and clarity on requirements
  • Monitor and track progress on multiple initiatives, ensuring that deliverables meet quality standards
  • Be an expert and consultant on the data team’s products for internal teams
  • Drive scrums, sprint planning, and task pointing sessions; oversee scrum process and coach the teams on how to use scrum and Agile practices and methodology
  • Assist in documenting data models internal to the data team and SQL stored procedures owned by other internal teams
  • Manage and groom the product backlogs of user stories, tasks, and bugs
  • Protect scrum team from outside interference during a sprint

Job Requirements:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across various teams and departments.
  • Demonstrated experience in a role emphasizing stakeholder management
  • 3+ years’ experience working on cross-functional teams
  • 4+ years’ experience translating business needs into requirements and specifications for software products
  • Working knowledge of SQL sufficient to interpret existing code
  • Hands-on experience in JIRA
  • Exceptional expertise in Agile methodologies, including experience managing product and sprint backlogs

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Scrum Master experience on agile software development projects
  • Project Management certification and experience in waterfall software development and/or non-software projects
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
