Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics and Global Services supporting Caterpillar dealers and customers. Our teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology and operational excellence.
As a Data Scientist, you will be a key technical contributor to data-driven solutions supporting the business and analytical needs of our Dealers' aftermarket parts inventory management within the PIC system. You will contribute to production processes, business intelligence reporting, data architecture, predictive modeling, analytical tool development, and ad hoc analysis. You will have the opportunity to solve problems and deliver solutions using tools like Power BI, Dataiku, Python, SAS, SQL, simulation tools, and generative AI.
Additional Information:

• This role is located in Morton, IL and does not offer relocation.
• This role is 1st shift, Monday - Friday.
• This role is 100% on-site with no opportunity for hybrid or remote schedules.
• This role requires up to 10% domestic travel.

What You Will Do:

• Own, maintain, and improve critical production processes and analytical solutions supporting parts inventory planning.

• Monitor and optimize existing production programs to improve efficiency, reliability, and overall performance.

• Maintain and enhance analytical processes using tools such as SAS, Python, Dataiku, and simulation technologies.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.

• Support data architecture maintenance and continuous improvement efforts.

• Perform parts inventory analysis and provide actionable insights to support business needs.

• Respond to ad hoc analytical requests from business and technical stakeholders.

• Develop reporting, visualization, and decision-support tools.

• Conduct project-based research, simulations, predictive modeling, and other advanced analytics.

• Evaluate opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, including generative AI, within analytical solutions.

• Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to the design and implementation of future analytical solutions.

• Partner with the broader technical team on development projects while helping create capacity for new solution development.

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

• Business Statistics: Knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.

• Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

• Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

• Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.

• Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.

• Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.

• Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

What Will Set You Apart (Top Candidates Will Have):

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineer, data analytics, data science, information systems, computer science, math, statistics, economics, or similar technical subject matter
• 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake and SQL for data management, analysis, and reporting.
• Experience developing solutions using Python.
• Strong Power BI development experience, including creating effective reports and data visualizations.
• Experience with forecasting, demand planning, inventory planning, or related analytical work.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, or data science methodologies.
• Experience evaluating, testing, or developing generative AI solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and concepts while adapting to changing priorities.
• Ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, customers, and dealer-facing teams.

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $158,480.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
