The Specialty Equipment Services division is looking for a Data Scientist to build a modern data intelligence team that improves decisions, strengthens client value, and increases operational efficiency. The data scientist role blends strategy and hands-on delivery: you will partner with leaders to define the right questions, map current data realities, and deliver analytics and AI solutions that help us tell our story and drive results for both our clients and Great American Insurance.

Essential Job Functions & ResponsibilitiesWork closely with leadership team to identify key metrics and insights needed to support strategic goals and business objectives
Develop and maintain financial models for large commercial clients and internal underwriting and leadership stakeholders
Translate complex account structures, underwriting economics, and performance drivers into clear narratives and visuals; a storyteller mindset
Perform gap analysis on current state, develop and recommend roadmap sequence of investments (projects, processes, technology enhancements) to achieve vision
Drive innovation by exploring new tools, alternate data sources, modeling techniques to enhance business performance
Lead development of an “insight” digital product for clients
Guide training to promote data literacy skillsets for divisional employees
Works closely with divisional leaders, shared services, and IT partners to ensure solutions are practical and adoptable
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Generally, 3 or more years of experience translating business needs into analytics deliverables, measurables, and compelling narratives
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to structure ambiguous problems and define success metrics
Working knowledge of modern data practices (data sourcing, data quality, modeling, and governance concepts)
Proficiency with analytical tools and languages appropriate for data science work (e.g., SQL and at least one modeling/scripting language)
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; strong presentation and writing skills.
May require periodic travel to stakeholder sites or company locations (10% Travel)
Experience in insurance, financial services, or risk-oriented businesses
Experience building client-facing analytics or ‘insight’ products
Familiarity with cloud data platforms and BI tools used in the organization (e.g., Snowflake, Tableau, Power BI)
Experience piloting and operationalizing AI use cases in partnership with IT and business teams
