Data Scientist Senior

OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the upkeep and accuracy of enterprise data lineage, development of metadata models, integration with data governance policies, implementation of data flow within complex processes, identification of data flow patterns, documentation of dependencies, and end-to-end lineage implementation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understanding enterprise data flow patterns and data processing architecture.

• Engage with devops, engineering, and business stakeholders to inform lineage requirements and design.

• Ensure effective delivery of value through end-to-end data lineage visualization by facilitating easy access to metadata, clarifying data origins and processes, and assessing its suitability for various uses.

• Configure and maintain data lineage solutions for the organization, ensuring that their functionalities and benefits are fully leveraged across different business units.

• Coordinate activities concerning metadata identification, standardization, and updates within their respective data warehouse tables.

• Develop and publish metrics for metadata completeness and data lineage visualization usage, fostering its wider adoption.

• Integrate data lineage with automation tools.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for data lineage, create training materials and educate users as needed.

• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

• Complete other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years related experience.

• Experience with various hybrid databases both on premise and in the cloud.

• Intermediate level knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and Not Only Structured Query Language (nSQL).

• Experience analyzing large data sets.

• Intermediate level knowledge of Python and UNIX.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• Intermediate level knowledge of REST APIs.

• Tactical experience with pertinent automation tools (e.g., Automic, ControlM).

• Intermediate level knowledge of data profiling and metadata management.

• Masters or Doctorate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields, with proven coursework proficiency in these subjects.

• Knowledge of M&T Bank’s data systems, tables, and fields.

• Knowledge of M&T Bank’s products, lines of business, and processes.

• Experience querying and analyzing M&T Bank data to answer business and/or finance questions.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,869.52 - $163,115.87 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
