At Klaviyo, we value the unique backgrounds, experiences and perspectives each Klaviyo (we call ourselves Klaviyos) brings to our workplace each and every day. We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at success and appreciate the experiences each person brings beyond the traditional job requirements. If you're a close but not exact match with the description, we hope you'll still consider applying. Want to learn more about life at Klaviyo? About the team:
At Klaviyo, we love tackling tough data science and engineering problems and look for employees who specialize in certain areas but are passionate about working collaboratively to build features powered by advanced data science and ML technology. We work together to break through any obstacle or technical challenge in their way, and we push each other to move out of our comfort zone, learn new technologies, and work hard to ensure each day is better than the last. About the role:
Our team is looking for remarkable data scientists to build features that make our product more intelligent, streamline Klaviyo's internal operations, and transform Klaviyo's future. In this role, you'll have an outsized impact on Klaviyo by building purpose-driven and robust models, designing and implementing solutions that automate manual work and improve outcomes both for our customers and ourselves, and adeptly using both cutting-edge and well-studied approaches.
You should be deeply technical and hands on. You love getting into the product and into the code to understand and contribute to solutions with your technical toolset, which is both broad and deep. You prefer iterative solutions that are incrementally better to a long-debated "perfect" solution. You understand how important writing quality, intelligible, well-tested code is to delivering a data science solution.
You love working with your stakeholders and partners-from Engineering, Product, and Design to teams outside of R&D, depending on the project-to solve challenging problems for customers, and you enjoy talking to stakeholders and customers firsthand. You believe the best solutions are those arrived through partnership with those stakeholders, and you believe in working hand-in-hand, not tossing projects over a wall for someone else to finish. You're able to drive projects forward, overcome challenges, and work with stakeholders to define key details of a project.
What we're looking for:

  • 2+ years industry experience in data science or machine learning
  • Experience leading technical projects, working directly with stakeholders to deliver successful features, and demonstrating both strong technical skills and strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience developing and putting models into production, evaluating their impact through testing and experimentation, and owning and maintaining production models long term
  • A wide and deep base of knowledge in data science, statistics, and machine learning
  • Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, data science, or equivalent industry experience
  • Proficiency in Python and experience using standard ML tools such as pandas, sklearn, PyTorch, XGBoost

Nice to have:

  • Experience developing technical roadmaps to solving complex business problems using ML
  • Experience with Sagemaker, Ray, Spark, Huggingface, DBT
  • Experience in any specific data science domain (e.g. NLP, experimental design, forecasting) is not a requirement for this role, but be sure to list any areas you have substantial experience and expertise in
  • Experience working with customers directly
  • Industry experience in software engineering

The pay range for this role is listed below. Sales roles are also eligible for variable compensation and hourly non-exempt roles are eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law. This role is eligible for benefits, including: medical, dental and vision coverage, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k), flexible paid time off and company-paid holidays and a culture of learning that includes a learning allowance and access to a professional coaching service for all employees.
Base Pay Range For US Locations:
$123,200 - $184,800 USD
