As our Data Scientist I FTR, you will deliver insights and analytics while working collaboratively with a diverse team building and supporting sustainable tactical solutions to complex challenges facing MISO’s forward energy markets.
You will work in collaboration with engineers, operators, analysts, and data scientists within Market Operations to develop user-interactive applications while providing capabilities for user-developed tools along with deep data analytics. Additionally, as our Data Scientist I FTR, you will also play a critical role in being a liaison with agile teams, and MISO’s data analytics functions to ensure alignment with enterprise objectives and best practices. The tools and analysis developed by you will add value to MISO’s forward energy market operations by enhancing awareness and decision making with the mission of optimizing markets, reducing risk, and delivering value.
As a Data Scientist I FTR, you will have the opportunity to create a large impact on MISO’s forward markets. You will have the opportunity to:
- Develop data-driven solutions for complex business challenges, emphasizing regression, classification, and other methods for tabular/structured data.
- Identify patterns and trends in datasets to extract actionable insights.
- Create algorithms supporting cross-functional decision-making in collaboration with developer(s) for building data pipelines.
- Develop complex models for large-scale machine learning, aligning with best practices where existing.
- Employ analytical, statistical, and programming skills to process and interpret large data sets in the cloud and on-premises sources.
- Collaborate with Forward Market Solutions team to develop sustainable tools aiding market operations, including visualizations for dashboards and applications.
To be successful as our Data Scientist I FTR, we’re looking for the following skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, IT, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science or Mathematics or related field
- Specific experience with Python
- Other proficiency in some of these areas are preferred:
- GIT
- SQL
- Tableau
- Grafana
- Power BI
- Kubernetes
- Azure Data Factory
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $73,000.00 – $98,000.00 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
