About the Role
As a Data Science Manager at Micron Technology Inc., you will be responsible for the vision, development, and management of a high-performing and technical analytics team. This is a highly collaborative role where you will partner with operations, engineering, management, and information technology stakeholders to provide data-driven solutions to complex strategic and tactical challenges.
In this role, you will combine problem-solving, data-analysis, and technical skills to identify, quantify, and solve business problems. You will lead a team that is constantly challenging the boundaries of what is possible, guiding them to generate algorithms, create computer models, and test and validate models that are scalable for production. You will develop expert-level knowledge of Micron's operations and use this knowledge to deliver prescriptive, actionable solutions, while conveying corporate business initiatives and ensuring a clear line of sight to department and corporate strategic objectives within your team.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Strategy:
- Drive the vision, development, and management of a high-performing data science team.
- Establish and monitor team performance metrics to identify and implement continual improvement opportunities.
- Develop and improve the individual technical capabilities of current and future Micron data scientists.
- Influence and develop overarching data science strategies and applications.
Technical Execution & Innovation:
- Lead your team to generate scalable algorithms and computer models for production environments.
- Develop and deploy smart manufacturing applications across all Micron Fabs.
- Promote and apply broad areas of mathematics, statistics, information science, and computer science (including signal processing, probability models, machine learning, AI, GenAI, data mining, predictive analytics, and uncertainty modeling).
- Evaluate applicable area solutions, including third-party software and hardware selection.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Consulting:
- Discover and present business-relevant "stories" and actionable insights to business stakeholders using advanced data visualization methods.
- Provide technical consulting and hands-on assistance to Fab area teams to create best-in-class solutions, troubleshoot existing ones, and deploy new solutions.
- Assist in troubleshooting advanced application issues, providing technical solutions and mentoring to ensure resolution.
- Stay current with area-specific business practices and operational needs at each site.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree paired with at least 7 years of professional experience in data science.
- Strong technical credibility in data science modeling and algorithms across statistics, machine learning, deep learning, and AI/GenAI solutions.
- Hands-on experience in data analytics application development and building robust data engineering pipelines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively lead and present to both small and large groups.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with peers, as well as mid- and senior-level management.
- Strong peer leadership and relationship-management capabilities, paired with solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing business needs.
- Outstanding customer focus with a proven ability to manage, prioritize, and drive project-based work.
Preferred Qualifications
- End-to-End Delivery: Strong ownership of delivery and impact; ability to own the lifecycle from data exploration through deployment and adoption to meet Manufacturing (MFG) business needs.
- Manufacturing Domain Expertise: Deep familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing processes and Fab operations.
- Mentorship: Proven experience in mentorship and guidance that effectively improves the skills, knowledge, and output of other team members.
