The Data Steward position is a high-performing role in support of data management functions for a particular data domain within USIS. This individual will work within a team of data owners who serve as subject matter experts for the data sources, to ensure the appropriate quality, metadata management and internal and external support are in accordance with our service level commitments. Candidates should be tenacious, creative, optimistic and curious, with an appetite for growth in business-minded leadership.

What you’ll do

  • Understands processes within the data pipeline, supports at least 1 or more key processes within the data pipeline.

  • Participates in and contributes to initiatives that improve business use of the data

  • Understands the properties to support data governance of one or more data assets (lineage, taxonomy, regulation and compliance, trustworthiness (quality, privacy, etc.), self-describability, and security), and supports implementation of a supporting practice with other groups.

  • Creates documentation materials about the data and has a good understanding of data modeling.

  • Understands key data metrics, suggests optimization efforts. 

  • Participates in new data initiatives

What experience you need 

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline

  • 2 years of analysis, product owner, and/or consulting experience regarding data, preferably financial services data

  • 2 years of relevant experience with industry-leading lenders and/or data companies, with a working knowledge of data structure, data handling, the credit lifecycle and data management

  • Strong aptitude and proven ability to develop data-driven solutions to meet business objectives

  • Familiarity with cloud and on prem technologies, structured and unstructured data, and streaming data processes

  • Familiarity with SQL and BI Tools (Looker, BigQuery, Tableau, etc.) and cloud/desktop application suites (Microsoft or Google)

What could set you apart

  • Master’s Degree strongly preferred

  • Cloud certification strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with cloud and on-prem technologies, structured and unstructured data, streaming and reposed data

  • A strong sense of governance protocols, the need to respect highly sensitive data and proactive attention to regulatory, security and compliance driven policies

  • Demonstrates leadership with cross-functional efforts; develops effective working relationships with peers, managers, and senior management within and across organizational lines 

  • The ability to manage multiple high-impact projects at the same time

  • Creativity and drive, coupled with a desire to grow in thought leadership, initiative and strategic thinking

  • Experience with Collibra, or similar metadata management tool

  • Experience with Looker, or similar data visualization tool

  • Experience with SQL, Google BigQuery, Python, Java, or equivalent database queries and views
