The Data Platform Engineer owns the day-to-day reliability, operability, and cost efficiency of the cloud data platform, centered on Snowflake and the modern data stack. The role administers the platform; builds and operates orchestration, deployment automation, monitoring, and access implementation; owns consumption cost management; and executes database and platform migrations through their lifecycle. It operates within identity, network, and security controls owned by SecOps and NetOps, consolidating platform administration duties that are scattered today into one accountable, auditable role.This position follows a hybrid work model, combining both onsite and remote work. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to the onsite requirements, candidates must reside within the state of Pennsylvania and able to meet the onsite requirements. Employees are expected to be onsite a minimum of 40% of the time, or more frequently as business needs require.
In this position, you will
- Administer the Snowflake environment, including warehouse configuration, workload management performance and query optimization, environment management, and platform upgrades.
- Own platform cost management, including tagging and attribution of compute, storage, and pipeline costs by domain and initiative; consumption monitoring and reporting; and workload optimization.
- Build and operate orchestration, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code for data workloads, providing safe, repeatable deployment for engineering teams.
- Operate platform observability including - pipeline monitoring, data freshness monitoring incident response process, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Implement and operate role-based access control for the data platform in partnership with Information Security, following organization-owned identity and access processes.
- Plan and execute database and platform migrations based on lifecycle and readiness, validating with dependent teams before retirement of prior environments.
- Maintain disaster recovery, backup, and compliance evidence for the data platform.
- Provide platform guardrails, tooling, documentation, and technical enablement that improve the cloud-platform proficiency of engineering teams and promote consistent, secure, and efficient use of the governed environment.
- Experience implementing and operating monitoring, observability, and incident management practices for production data platforms.
