Primary Purpose
The Data Platform Architect's role is to help design and manage the data and analytics platform supporting Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Data Lake, Self Service Analytics, Event Streaming Services, Enterprise Data Services and Reporting Platform. Assist other solution and data product architects to strategically plan, design and implement solutions with scale, resiliency, performance while ensuring high levels of data availability and quality. Data Platform architect will be responsible for serving the end-to-end platform needs for all the data product teams by collaborating with the data product squads, cloud engineering teams and respective architects.
Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis until the end of their appointment.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for data platform vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, governance committee members and other key stakeholders.
  • Establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
  • Conduct data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
  • Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance and follow best practice.
  • Evaluate and recommend data platform components, including reporting, analytics, database management systems, integrations software, data mining tools, and metadata management tools.
  • Select and implement the appropriate data platform tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
  • Mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, to ensure data quality.
  • Execute data warehouse configuration and performance tuning.
  • Identify inefficiencies and gaps in the current data platform and leverage solutions to ensure data standards
  • Identify data discrepancies and data quality issues, and work to ensure data consistency and integrity.
  • Diagnose and work with IT and data personnel to resolve data warehouse access and performance issues.
  • Monitor system details within the data platform, including data warehouse storage and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data systems.
  • Document the data architecture and environment to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
  • Work with data team and end-users to identify, create, and deliver data and reports according to requirements.
  • Ability to work with cloud engineering teams to enable data platform services with end to end automation


Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or Technical field and Masters Degree in Technology and/or Business related field; equivalent trainings/certifications/experience equivalency will be considered
  • 8 or more years of equivalent experience in relevant job or field of technology.
  • 5 or more years of equivalent experience in an advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly
  • 5 or more years experience directly responsible for guiding, training or onboarding team members in relevant technologies, capabilities or skills
  • 5+ years of architecting and maintaining a big data platform architecture utilizing Microsoft Data & Analytics Services (SQL Server on-premise & Azure Data Services; Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL DW, HD Insight)
  • Experience implementing and maintaining SQL Server High Availability Groups
  • 5+ years of design, implementation, and/or support of complex application architectures (i.e. having an architectural sense for connecting disparate data sources, structured and unstructured data, etc.) required
  • Experience leveraging TDD/CI/CD and robust build/test automation, with a preference for cross platform stacks and containerization (Git, Maven, Jenkins, Crucible, Sonar, Docker, AKS etc.)
  • Experienced in agile software development lifecycle, and how to drive the technology roadmap concurrent with the feature roadmap
  • Experience with a distributed micro-services and/or Serverless cloud software architecture
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks
  • Hands-on IaC expertise
  • Strong experience working in cross functional teams
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Leadership and teamworking skills.
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge and hands-on expertise in the following technologies: RDBMS, NoSQL, Big Data Hadoop technologies, distributed technologies, ETL tools, data modeling for transactional as well as reporting focuses. Technologies like: Kafka, Kenesis, BI and Datawarehousing
  • Data Security First mindset


Preferred Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree advanced training and or certifications in relevant field/s of study preferred
  • 5 or more years experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating model.
  • 5 or more years experience in leading teams or advancing technical capability in teams.
  • Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
  • Cloud Solution Architect Certification
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • Experience with Infrastructure, network and security aspects
