The Opportunity

Our client, a local government organization, seeks an experienced Data Migration Architect to join their Information Technology Department. This role is critical to the success of data migration initiative, involving collaboration with various County departments and vendor teams. The Data Migration Architect will manage the end-to-end data migration process, ensuring the quality and accuracy of data throughout the project's lifecycle.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end data migration and conversion process, including design, planning, and execution, for several legacy systems into the new third-party application.
  • Work closely with County and vendor teams to gather and document data migration requirements, ensuring a comprehensive and cohesive data conversion strategy.
  • Analyze legacy data systems, map data fields, and ensure proper data cleansing and standardization to meet project needs.
  • Oversee the development and validation of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to migrate large datasets, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that migration tasks align with project milestones and timelines.
  • Perform data conversion testing and validation in collaboration with technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring successful migration and data accuracy.
  • Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and risks to the project management team, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve issues during data migration, acting as the primary escalation point for all data conversion tasks.

Compensation and Term 

This opportunity is for a full-time, contract position with possible extensions and pay commensurate with experience up to $135,000 per year. Medical, dental, vision and life insurance available after 30 days of hire.

Qualifications you need

A successful candidate has the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus on software development.
  • At least eight (8) years of experience in data migration, data conversion, or similar roles.
  • Experience in large-scale data migration/ETL processes from legacy to modern systems, including data mapping, design, validation, and implementation.
  • Proficiency with database management and development tools, specifically SQL Server, SSIS, and SQL stored procedures.
  • Expertise in Excel and various ETL tools and techniques.
  • Strong technical background in database development and migration.
  • Experience working with mainframe applications, including COBOL and IDMS databases.
  • Familiarity with both Waterfall and Agile methodologies for software development.
  • Excellent attention to detail, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
