Position Overview
The Data Steward is a highly visible member of a cross-functional Data Product Enablement & Governance team who partners with business, technical, and regulatory partners to ensure the documentation and implementation of data standards to ensure USE & Care+ analytic data is fit for organization use. This role focuses on governing the data and metadata foundations required to responsibly enable AI and advanced analytics, including business glossary management, data classification, metadata quality, and stewardship workflows for AI‑generated content. Working closely with data owners, product teams, analytics, engineering, and governance partners, this role ensures that data used for AI and analytics is accurate, compliant, explainable, and aligned to enterprise standards, while enabling scalable adoption of AI‑assisted metadata and automation capabilities across data products and platforms.
As a Data Steward, you’ll help define, govern, and enable trusted data products that power analytics, decision‑making, and AI—working across business and technical teams to make data clear, reliable, and valuable.
Responsibilities
- Govern data and metadata standards that ensures AI readiness, including semantic consistency, explainability, and reuse across AI and analytics use cases.
- Participate in the governance of AI‑generated metadata (e.g., glossary terms, descriptions, classifications), ensuring outputs are clearly labeled, reviewed, and approved through stewardship workflows.
- Ensure data used in AI and advanced analytics is appropriately classified, protected, and compliant with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and refine AI‑driven tagging rules (e.g., sensitivity labels, semantic classifications, glossary mappings) to ensure accuracy, explainability, and alignment with enterprise data standards.
- Lead Data Governance collaborations with USE & Care+ stakeholders to document, define, maintain, and manage foundational and analytic data and data assets.
- Expert on relevant data, data usage, data assets, and data landscape.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure data standardization, consistency, and compliance across the matrixed USE & Care+ organization.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to establish data quality (DQ) metrics and determine performance standards.
- Partner with Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) to ensure end-to-end data governance and policy compliance.
- Identifies and addresses risks and vulnerabilities related to data security, compliance, usage, quality, and integrity across data assets.
- Provide consultative stewardship services to delivery and issue resolution teams, serving as subject matter expert as needed.
- Responsible for data quality assessment and monitoring; trends analysis; and remediation and preventative action coordination.
- Acts as a single point of contact for coordination of DQ initiatives for USE & Care+ data assets.
- Responsible for all Data Governance products within USE & Care+, including data rules, metadata management, CDE documentation, glossary, lineage, etc.
- Engages with Technical Product Owners (TPOs) and Capability Analysts (CAs) to provide input and feedback as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of how data classification and tagging directly support AI enablement, including downstream impacts on access control, privacy, model training, and analytics reuse.
- Proven expertise in data model metadata (e.g., attribute definitions, lineage, source-to-target mappings) as an enabler for AI interpretability, semantic tagging, and governed reuse across analytics and AI use cases.
- Intermediate to Advanced data analysis skills and tools such as MS SQL (SSMS), Teradata, and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
- Ability to engage business and data stakeholders to resolve questions or issues.
- Ability to strategize across complex, cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Self-driven with the ability to function with minimal direction.
- Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Quick learner and team player.
Required Experience & Education:
- 5+ years’ experience as a Data Steward.
- 5+ years’ experience in the Healthcare industry.
- Experience in Agile methodology.
Desired Experience:
- · Experience stewarding/supporting AI-assisted data tagging, classification, or metadata enrichment capabilities, with accountability for business validation and governance approval of AI-generated outputs.
- · Experience with data governance tools, particularly Collibra DI and DQ.
- · Experience with Commercial healthcare products.
