Data drives ING. It shapes how we assess risk, measure performance, and make decisions. To unlock its full value, data must be complete, accurate, traceable, auditable, and protected. The Global Data Organisation is the first line of defense, securing strong data chains in close collaboration with business lines, functions, and countries across the Bank.
The Global Chief Data Office (CDO) delivers the standards, capabilities, and products that power ING’s data‑driven transformation. From frictionless customer journeys to ESG innovation and emerging digital trends, the CDO ensures ING’s data remains a strategic asset—governed, protected, and ready for the future.
The Opportunity
As a Data Governance Expert in the Global Data Management team, you will help define and maintain ING’s global standards for Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Protection, AI and Data Ethics. These standards support ING’s regulatory obligations (BCBS239, GDPR, AI Act, DORA) and ensure consistent execution across all countries and business lines.
You will work in a lean global function with strong ties to local teams, co‑creating frameworks, work instructions, and controls. Your work will strengthen ING’s enterprise‑wide data capability, improve audit readiness, and support the Bank’s shift toward full ownership of data processes across the organization.
You will contribute to ING’s transformation by keeping our data foundations strong, actionable, and aligned with supervisory expectations.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Data Governance Expert, you will:
- Develop and improve global governance processes, controls, and standards.
- Create work instructions that translate data governance requirements into implementation for data services, delivery, and operations.
- Apply data governance concepts and tooling to support execution across domains.
- Monitor implementation through defined metrics and dashboards and follow up on gaps.
- Produce progress reports and status updates on data governance topics.
- Maintain clear documentation for audit readiness and regulatory reviews.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the global data community.
- Organize community calls, workshops, and stakeholder sessions.
- Prepare presentations, training materials, and knowledge‑sharing content.
- Support strategic execution within the Global Data Management team.
- Contribute to team building and collective delivery across ING’s global data organization.
Your Competencies
We hire exceptional talent for their potential, not just their experience. You’ll be part of a high-impact team at the heart of the Bank’s data transformation journey. You’ll gain valuable experience, contribute to meaningful change, and be part of a dynamic, forward-looking team shaping the future of data across the organisation.
- A Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- A strong passion for data management and driving transformation initiatives.
- The confidence and capability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams across the organization.
- A proactive mindset, demonstrating ownership and initiative in managing tasks and delivering results.
- Analytical skills to interpret data, identify challenges, and support decision-making with actionable insights and recommendations.
- Resilience and adaptability in dynamic environments, handling shifting priorities and tight deadlines with professionalism and focus.
- An openness to contribute to diverse and high-impact projects that deepen your understanding of data and transformation across the Bank.
