We are looking for a Data Governance Consultant to join our Metadata & Data Quality team. In this role, you will help improve how the Society understands, manages and trusts its data through the application of metadata management, data lineage and data quality best practice. Working closely with business and technology teams, you'll support the adoption of governance processes, controls and tooling that improve confidence in data and enable better business outcomes.

This is a varied role, offering the opportunity to work across a broad range of Metadata Management and Data Quality activities, supporting day-to-day delivery alongside initiatives that simplify, standardise and automate governance processes.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

Your day will involve partnering with stakeholders across the Society to improve the understanding, quality and control of data. You'll support activities such as data lineage, critical data element management, data quality monitoring, and helping teams identify and resolve data issues.

You'll work closely with colleagues across the Metadata & Data Quality team to embed governance controls, improve adoption of governance tooling, and identify opportunities to enhance and automate governance processes. The role offers flexibility to work across both Metadata Management and Data Quality, balancing operational delivery with longer-term improvements that improve efficiency, scalability and trust in the Society's data. Expect a mix of stakeholder engagement, analysis, problem-solving and practical delivery across a broad range of governance initiatives.

About you

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate data-related challenges, identify root causes and deliver practical solutions that create business value

  • Experience supporting data quality monitoring, data quality issue management, metadata management activities or continuous improvement initiatives

  • Experience using governance tooling such as Collibra, Informatica or similar platforms, alongside automation or workflow capabilities to improve governance processes and outcomes

  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including proficiency in SQL, SAS or similar technologies to analyse data, investigate issues and support data-driven decision making

  • Experience working with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and drive improvements

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
