Job Duties and Responsibilities
DISH, an EchoStar company, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineering & Analytics Manager to lead our dynamic Data Solutions team comprising data engineers, data analysts, software developers, machine learning/AI engineers, and AWS infrastructure/DevOps specialists. This role requires a strategic leader who can bridge technical excellence with business objectives while fostering innovation in data-driven solutions that enhance customer value and organizational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this job position include, but are not limited to, the following tasks and duties an employee encounters while performing this job.   • Lead and manage a team of diverse engineers, including setting performance expectations, establishing benchmarks, and conducting regular performance evaluations. Mentor and coach the team members in achieving team as well as personal growth goals
  • Identify and develop talent within the engineering team including development plans, goal plans, and succession planning
  • Assist in staffing and recruitment efforts within the engineering team by attracting and retaining top talent
  • Assigning tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring that the right skills are matched with the right projects
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the engineering team
  • Oversee multiple engineering projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
  • Define the scope of engineering projects, identify key performance indicators (KPIs), and establish success criteria
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements, objectives, and timelines. Ensure that engineering efforts align with market and customer needs, that resources are effectively managed, and foster open communication
  • Address conflicts and challenges within the engineering team or with other stakeholders, and find constructive solutions
  • Ensure that engineering work is well-documented, including design documents, technical specifications, and project reports
  • Contribute to the development of the technical strategy and roadmaps for the Data Solutions team
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, assisting in solving complex engineering challenges
  • Identify and mitigate risks and technical challenges that could impact project timelines or outcomes
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance processes and standards for engineering projects. Conduct quality audits and inspections to ensure high-quality work
  • Promote a culture of creative problem-solving within the team
  • Managing the organization's intellectual property, including patents and copyrights, and ensuring that engineering work complies with IP laws
  • Drive efficiencies and work on continuous improvements in project quality through automation and other innovative ideas
  • Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, policies, and procedures
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
  • Conduct team meetings as well as one on ones with developers, senior management and peers as needed

Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution. A master's degree is a plus
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience, including 2-3 years in a leadership capacity or managerial role
  • Proven track record of successfully managing engineering teams and delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Experience managing multiple engineering projects concurrently
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Grafana)
  • Experience with both OLTP and OLAP systems

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate engineering teams
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools
  • Ability to resolve conflicts within the team and maintain a positive work environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information and project updates clearly and persuasively
  • Experience with batch and real-time data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Kafka, Kinesis)
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling techniques
  • Understanding of data lake architecture and modern data stack components
  • Proficiency with AWS data services: S3, Redshift, Athena, Glue, EMR, Lambda, Kinesis
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts: VPCs, IAM, security groups, networking
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Proficiency in AWS cloud technologies
  • Proficiency in observability tools for metrics, logs, tracing (OpenTelemetry framework preferred)
  • Expertise in Containerization/Orchestration tools and Docker/Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis concepts and data science methodologies
  • Understanding of ML/AI model development lifecycle and MLOps practices
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database optimization
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra)
  • Understanding of database performance tuning and indexing strategies
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and encryption methods
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks and monitoring tools
  • Understanding of data lineage and metadata management concepts

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $96,250.00/Year - $137,500.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
