Role Overview
We’re looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to help shape and scale the next generation of the GoodHabitz data platform.
You’ll work across cloud data infrastructure, data pipelines, lakehouse architecture, automation, governance, and analytics enablement. This role is central to building a secure, scalable, and efficient data platform that helps teams move quickly and make trusted, data-driven decisions.
You’ll partner closely with engineering, analytics, and business teams to create reliable data products, improve data delivery pipelines, optimize cloud resources, and support a modern cloud-native architecture running primarily on Amazon Web Services using Databricks.
Key Responsibilities
Data Platform Engineering
- Design, build, and operate scalable data infrastructure on AWS
- Develop and maintain batch and streaming pipelines using Databricks and Spark
- Improve reliability, scalability, performance, and resilience of data systems
- Support modern lakehouse architecture and enterprise analytics use cases
Medallion Architecture & Data Modeling
- Design and maintain Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers following Medallion Architecture
- Build trusted datasets for reporting, analytics, and self-service consumption
- Improve data quality, lineage, consistency, and governance standards
- Support reusable and scalable data models across business domains
Infrastructure as Code & Terraform
- Build, maintain, and evolve infrastructure using Terraform
- Design reusable, well-structured Terraform modules for shared data platform capabilities
- Improve standards for versioning, testing, documentation, and lifecycle management
- Collaborate with teams to safely provision resources through IaC workflows
Environments & Deployment
- Support and manage two environments across development and production
- Improve deployment automation and release consistency between environments
- Ensure stable promotion paths for pipelines, infrastructure, and platform changes
- Contribute to CI/CD standards and DevOps best practices
Security, Governance & Reliability
- Implement secure access controls, IAM roles, and least privilege principles
- Support monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational excellence across the platform
- Contribute to data governance, privacy, and compliance initiatives
- Troubleshoot incidents and continuously improve reliability
Cost Optimization & Efficiency
- Monitor and optimize AWS and Databricks platform spend
- Improve workload efficiency, cluster utilization, and resource management
- Partner with teams to design cost-conscious data solutions
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks on AWS
- Strong SQL skills and experience with Python, PySpark, or Scala
- Experience building modern ETL / ELT pipelines
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform
- Experience managing multiple environments and deployment workflows
- Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture and lakehouse principles
- Experience with Delta Lake, partitioning, optimization, and performance tuning
- Understanding of cloud security best practices
- Experience improving platform reliability and developer workflows
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with Unity Catalog or modern governance tooling
- Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitLab, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Databricks Workflows
- AWS or Databricks certifications
- Experience in SaaS or product-led environments
- FinOps / cloud cost optimization experience
