GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Data Engineer I designs, develops, tests, implements, troubleshoots, optimizes and maintains enterprise level data pipelines that implement complex processes, which reference a targeted centralized data warehouse and source systems. The incumbent analyzes data transformation requirements leveraged to build, refine, deploy and/or configure data pipeline architecture patterns that maximize reuse and minimize change impact. The data engineer I utilizes SQL, tools, and/or technology to implement robust, maintainable solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtains knowledge around the Amazon Web Service (AWS) tooling, mapping design, architectural design, coding, implementation, performance tuning and debugging.
- Develops data extracts, applications and ad-hoc queries using tools\languages deemed necessary.
- Obtains a strong understanding of data pipeline design principles required in building an enterprise data warehouse environment and/or app-to-app pipelining.
- Creates SQL queries required to access tabular structures in a Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
- Transforms functional specifications into data pipeline technical specifications and source to target mappings.
- Communicates effectively with Business Analysts, Data Modelers and Solution Architects to convert the pipeline design into specific development activities.
- Documents data pipeline processes thoroughly, including steps needed to migrate pipeline and/or database objects between various environments including Development, UAT, and Production.
- Performs unit and integration testing activities and assists in user acceptance testing as needed.
- Works with a mentor to further knowledge of data management and pipelining principles.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Information Management, or related field of study; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of ETL and data movement.
- Knowledge of basic data transformations and how to implement them in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Basic understanding of SQL Scripting and/or another programming language.
- Base knowledge of RDBMS and data warehouse tools including SQL Server and Snowflake.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
