About the role
The Data Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and optimising Sigma Groups data architecture to support analytics, AI initiatives, event operations, and iGaming‑related services. This role ensures that data is structured, accessible, secure, and scalable across all platforms, enabling the business to deliver exceptional event experiences and unlock new value through AI‑powered products and services.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, ensuring the company’s data ecosystem is future‑ready, compliant, and aligned with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture Strategy & Governance
- Defines the enterprise‑wide data architecture vision, principles, and roadmap.
- Establishes data standards, modelling practices, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency and quality.
- Maintains a holistic view of data flows across event platforms, CRM systems, mobile apps, exhibitor tools, and iGaming systems.
- Ensures the data architecture supports scalability, performance, and long‑term business needs.
Data Modelling & System Design
- Designs conceptual, logical, and physical data models for analytics, AI, and operational systems.
- Develops and maintains data warehouses, data lakes, and real‑time data pipelines.
- Ensures data structures support both batch and streaming use cases, including high‑traffic event scenarios.
- Collaborates with engineering teams to implement robust, efficient, and secure data solutions.
AI Tooling & AI‑Ready Data Enablement
- Prepares and optimise data environments for machine learning, predictive analytics, and AI‑powered features.
- Introduces AI‑assisted tools for data quality monitoring, anomaly detection, and automated modelling.
- Supports the development of AI‑enabled products such as:
- personalised event recommendations
- predictive attendee behaviour insights
- automated exhibitor and sponsor analytics
- intelligent content generation
- Ensures AI data pipelines are compliant, scalable, and aligned with responsible‑AI principles.
Events & iGaming Data Architecture
- Builds data systems that support the unique demands of live events, including real‑time engagement tracking and high‑volume ingestion.
- Supports iGaming‑specific data requirements such as behavioural analytics, partner reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures data systems can handle traffic spikes during major events and tournaments.
Data Quality, Security & Compliance
- Implements data‑quality frameworks, validation rules, and monitoring systems.
- Ensures compliance with data‑privacy regulations and responsible‑gaming requirements where applicable.
- Works with security teams to embed secure‑by‑design principles into all data architectures.
- Manages risks related to data integrity, lineage, and access control.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Works closely with data engineers, data scientists, product managers, and platform teams to deliver end‑to‑end data solutions.
- Translates business requirements into scalable and efficient data architectures.
- Communicates data strategy, risks, and opportunities to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Mentors and guides teams on data best practices and architectural standards.
Qualifications
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in data modelling, database design, and distributed data systems
- Proficiency with cloud data platforms and modern data architectures
- Knowledge of streaming technologies and real‑time data processing
- Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements and AI‑assisted data tools
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data‑quality frameworks
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience with event‑driven or iGaming data environments is a plus
Preferred Experience
- Educated to degree level in a numerate or technical discipline, Masters preferred.
- 8-10+ years of technical experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related fields
- 3+ years of management or mentorship experience, such as leading data teams or guiding architectural initiatives
- Proven track record of designing scalable, cloud‑native data architectures
- Experience supporting AI‑enabled products or introducing AI tooling
- Background working with event data, digital engagement metrics, or iGaming systems
- Experience with enterprise data governance and large‑scale data transformations
