Role Summary
The Data Operations Business Analyst is responsible for defining, capturing, and operationalizing data specifications and business metadata for Platinum‑level enterprise data sources. This role focuses on the detailed documentation of source tables, data structures, lineage, and business meaning, ensuring that critical enterprise data assets are fully specified, governed, and discoverable within enterprise data governance platforms.
The role partners closely with business stakeholders, analytic teams, and data engineering to translate enterprise data assets into well‑documented, observable, and trusted data products, with specifications maintained centrally in governance and metadata management tools such as Collibra.
Key Responsibilities
Data Specification & Metadata Capture
- Lead the identification and documentation of data specifications for Platinum‑level enterprise data sources, including:
- Source systems and source tables
- Key data elements and attributes
- Transformation logic and dependencies
- End‑to‑end data lineage
- Gather, define, and maintain business metadata, including:
- Business definitions and terminology
- Metric descriptions and business context
- Data ownership and stewardship assignments
- Ensure both business and technical metadata are complete, accurate, and aligned to enterprise standards.
Enterprise Data Governance Enablement
- Ensure all data specifications and metadata are registered, maintained, and governed within enterprise data governance tools, with a primary focus on Collibra.
- Support governance workflows including:
- Data asset onboarding and certification
- Business glossary curation
- Stewardship reviews and approvals
- Partner with data owners, stewards, and governance teams to ensure Platinum data sources meet certification, transparency, and auditability expectations.
Data Lineage, Architecture & Observability
- Work closely with data engineering and platform teams to document logical and physical data lineage from source through analytic consumption.
- Capture and maintain data architecture artifacts that support impact analysis and change management.
- Partner with engineering to define and automate data observability specifications and reporting, aligning quality, freshness, and reliability indicators back to documented data assets.
Cross‑Functional Partnership
- Act as a liaison between business, analytics, governance, and engineering teams, ensuring consistent understanding of enterprise data definitions and specifications.
- Facilitate specification walkthroughs, design reviews, and metadata validation sessions.
- Support analytic and reporting teams by ensuring Platinum data products are clearly specified, trusted, and discoverable for reuse.
Required Qualifications
- 5–6 years of experience in data management, data operations, business analysis, or analytics enablement.
- Strong experience documenting data specifications, including source tables, lineage, and metadata.
- Hands‑on experience with enterprise data governance and metadata tools, preferably Collibra.
- Solid understanding of:
- Enterprise data architectures (data warehouse, lakehouse)
- Analytic and reporting consumption patterns
- Data certification and governed data products
- Ability to translate complex technical structures into clear business metadata and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience working with business stakeholders, analytic users, and data engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Platinum / Tier‑0 / certified enterprise data sources.
- Familiarity with data observability and data reliability concepts.
- Experience documenting end‑to‑end lineage and data architectures in complex enterprise environments.
- Exposure to regulated or compliance‑driven data domains.
- Experience working within a DataOps or product‑oriented data organization.
