PURPOSE

The Data Analyst is responsible for transforming curated data products and other data sources into reports, dashboards, and analyses that answer business questions and support decision-making across Baker Group. This role is expected to be largely manufacturing analytics focused, though there will be cross-training and projects in other areas as business needs dictate. This role works closely with other members of the data team, including the Data Engineer and Data Scientist, to ensure stakeholders receive accurate, timely, and consistent information that is grounded in Baker Group's single source of truth. The Data Analyst works directly with business stakeholders across departments, including executives, to gather requirements and present findings, and partners with the Software Development team to surface reporting and visuals within in-house developed applications. This role also builds paginated reports and automated distribution workflows to deliver data directly to stakeholders who need it.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs, builds, and maintains Power BI dashboards and reports for departmental, operational, and executive consumption.
  • Works with manufacturing operations leaders to deliver real-time or near real-time reporting on productivity metrics and project status.
  • Partners with the Software Development team to embed Power BI reports and visuals within in-house developed applications.
  • Builds and maintains paginated reports for structured, print-ready, and scheduled reporting needs.
  • Automates report generation and data distribution to stakeholder inboxes using Power Automate.
  • Writes and maintains SQL queries and DAX expressions against Fabric datasets and semantic models to support ad hoc analysis and custom reporting requests.
  • Prepares and exports data in Excel to support advanced stakeholders conducting independent ad hoc analysis.
  • Gathers reporting and analytics requirements directly from business stakeholders across departments, including executive leadership.
  • Translates business questions into data queries, visualizations, and clear narrative insights.
  • Presents findings and recommendations to business stakeholders and leadership.
  • Validates report accuracy against source data and reports data quality concerns back to the Data Engineer.
  • Maintains semantic model documentation, report catalogs, and data dictionaries to support self-service reporting users.
  • Trains and supports business users in self-service Power BI use.
  • Collaborates with the Data Engineer to identify data quality issues and inform pipeline or model improvements.
  • Collaborates with the Data team and business users to document data definitions and assumptions.
  • Monitors report performance, refresh reliability, and data currency, escalating issues as needed.
  • Applies Baker Group's data classification and governance standards when handling and distributing reports and data.
  • Stays current on Power BI, Fabric, and business intelligence best practices. 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, or other relevant quantitative field
  • Two to four years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis
  • Two to four years of experience working with manufacturing data and decision support systems is preferred
  • Experience with Stratus, make vs buy decisions, or ROI calculation in a manufacturing environment are a plus
  • Proficiency with Power BI, including report design, DAX, and Power Query
  • Proficiency with SQL for querying relational databases and data warehouses
  • Experience with Power Automate or similar workflow automation tools
  • Strong Excel skills for data manipulation and ad hoc analysis
  • Experience gathering requirements from and presenting findings to business stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric semantic models and paginated reporting
  • Business acumen and understanding of construction or related industries is a plus


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • No specific requirements; however, Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Certified Analytics Professional or similar certifications are a plus

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business questions into actionable data queries and visualizations

  • Team player with strong collaboration skills, particularly with the Data Engineer, Data Scientist, and business stakeholders

  • Must be able to manage competing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business priorities
  • Customer service orientation when supporting self-service reporting users


ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally
  • May have occasional visits to a manufacturing facility or job site which would require periods of standing, walking and/or climbing stairs


EQUIPMENT/TOOLS 

  • Use a computer for 8 hours a day
