Position Objective

The Data Analyst is responsible for identifying, capturing, analyzing, and managing the company’s data, contributing to better decision-making, and planning. The Data Analyst performs data analysis, including conceptualization, modeling, and presentation of data. Additionally, the Data Analyst performs a variety of technical tasks related to capturing, managing, and analyzing data; turning information into insights to support and enable key decisions and business processes. The Data Analyst also supports information governance in conjunction with Architects and Data Stewards.

The Data Analyst works to support data science activities by analyzing information, focusing on products or business areas. The Data Analyst can apply an array of basic data science methodologies including statistics, text analytics, algorithms, and numerical optimization, along with specialties such as machine learning.

The Data Analyst participates in program increment planning, pre-and-post planning, system and solution demos, and inspect and adapt events. The Data Analyst may also contribute to the development of the team backlog and architectural runway, management of work in process (WIP) levels, and support of program and solution Kanban. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Partner with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities where data and analytics can support strategic and operational objectives.
  • Gather, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources to support business recommendations and decision-making.
  • Develop data-driven insights and recommendations to address business challenges and improve performance outcomes.
  • Understand and apply data analysis methodologies, reporting requirements, and business intelligence best practices.
  • Maintain and enhance data inventories, data dictionaries, and catalogs of enterprise data assets.
  • Manage, access, and utilize internal and external data sources, including enterprise databases, data warehouses, and publicly available datasets.
  • Clean, transform, and prepare data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability for reporting and analysis.
  • Design and develop dashboards, scorecards, and self-service reporting solutions that effectively communicate key business metrics and trends.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and reports tailored to diverse stakeholder audiences, ranging from operational teams to executive leadership.
  • Support the development and enforcement of data governance standards, data quality controls, and analytics best practices.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting and analytical requests, providing timely and actionable insights.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data to identify trends, patterns, risks, opportunities, and emerging business issues.
  • Support organizational adoption of data governance frameworks, policies, and data management practices.
  • Collaborate across departments to reconcile competing requirements, align priorities, and facilitate data-driven solutions.
  • Utilize advanced spreadsheet, database, and business intelligence tools to perform analysis and deliver insights.
  • Interpret complex datasets and translate technical findings into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Summarize analytical findings and present insights through presentations, reports, and executive briefings.
  • Apply critical thinking, creativity, and innovative analytical approaches to solve business problems and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and measurement frameworks that drive business performance.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting processes and streamline data workflows to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or in Data Analytics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Statitics or Computer Science, OR equivalent work experience (5 years) 
  • Typically requires 0-2 years of experience in the desired field or may have entry level technical or business work experience, including internships

Preferred or Specialized

  • Experience in an agile environment strongly preferred

Certifications & Licenses

  • Any Insurance Certifications would be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must have skills: 

  • SQL and/or Snowflake database querying skills 
  • Solid data cleaning, transformation, and wrangling capabilities Understanding of basic statistical and analytical methods 
  • Ability to build dashboards and visualizations in BI tools 
  • Advanced Excel skills; Strong verbal & written communication skills for explaining data insights clearly to business leaders

Good to have skills: 

  • Python or R for data analysis skills
  • Snowflake and/or SQL coding experience writing complex queries 
  • Insurance Industry experience 
  • Advanced Data Visualization & Storytelling experience 
  • Predictive analytics 
  • AI & machine learning experience related to business intelligence insights 

Experience in Agile work environmentnowledge of:

  • Business operations, systems requirements and IT processes and technologies
  • Relational databases, NoSQL databases, data extraction, querying, and scripting 
  • How data is used within business processes and its impact on desired business process outcomes
  • The security, privacy and quality requirements for critical data entities

Basic ability to:

  • Perform data analysis identifying, analyzing and interpreting trends or patterns in structured and unstructured complex data sets
  • Provide support for the adoption of data governance policies
  • Assist in resolving the different points of view and requirements that invariably collide during cross-team and cross-organization efforts
  • Use/leverage spreadsheets and databases
  • Interpret trends or patterns in structured and unstructured complex data sets
  • Summarize findings, draw conclusions and put together presentations for a wide variety of audiences 
  • Apply original thinking to produce new ideas and innovate

Pay Range: 

    $66,000.00 - $89,500.00 annually    

  • This range is based on the expected level of experience and skills for this position. Final compensation will depend on individual.
