Job Summary
As the Cybersecurity Intern you will Support and perform security assessment and accreditation activities on IT systems and applications. This includes security and compliance audits, risk assessments, security plans, and performing system tests and evaluation.Job Description
We are looking for a Cybersecurity Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting security assessments, compliance initiatives, security testing, and remediation activities while working alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals. This role is a full-time internship and is on-site, with the possibility of remote work for certain client and CAI activities.
The internship dates are June 7, 2027 through August 6, 2027. This internship is a full-time opportunity requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available during core business hours for the entire 9-week duration of the program. The primary work location for this role is 19800 MacArthur Blvd, Suite 850, Irvine, CA 92612, and candidates must be able to reliably commute to this location.
What You'll Do
Support and perform security assessment and accreditation activities for IT systems and applications, including security and compliance audits, risk assessments, security plans, and system testing and evaluation
Support and conduct verification and validation security testing
Review and document policy, incident response, and remediation gaps
Collaborate with senior cybersecurity professionals to develop action plans for compliance-related findings and recommendations
Document and maintain data used to support remediation activities
Provide support for security control implementation
Support the maintenance of security policies and procedures
Assist with testing security controls to confirm system protections are operating effectively
What You'll Need
Required:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree
Current Junior with a 3.5 GPA or higher
Ability to meet established deadlines
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Technical aptitude to quickly grasp and understand system functionality
Strong attention to detail
Ability to document procedures and take detailed notes
IT network or systems administration experience
Foundational understanding of networking and operating system fundamentals, including TCP/IP, Windows, and Linux
Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through coursework, clubs, competitions, or personal projects
Preferred:
Familiarity with compliance frameworks and IT controls
Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or other security-related certifications
Exposure to security operations concepts such as SIEM, log analysis, or managed detection and response (MDR/XDR)
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, or AWS
Basic scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
